Editors Note: The Download Now link will download a smaller installer file 4.4MB on your desktop. Remain on the web and double-click the installer to proceed with all the actual download 3389.6 MB.
Microsofts Visual Studio 2010 Professional is undoubtedly an integrated solution for developing, debugging, and deploying lots of applications. It takes up several gigabytes and charges 799, but you'll be able to try it free for four weeks.
Easy ins: Visual Studios compact download manager greatly eases the whole process of downloading and installing this 3389.6MB package. We like having the capacity to specify which tools and programming languages to install as well as the individual disk space requirements for those of our drives.
Executive suite: Visual Studio has specific settings many different areas of development work, beginning with General Development and including Project Management, Web Development, and other programming languages.
Easy within the eyes: A classic Explorer layout with readily accessible and pin-able sidebars such as the right-hand Solutions Explorer and Office-like touches make Visual Studio not simply familiar but in addition surprisingly an easy task to manage for a real large suite.
Going Pro: Visual Studio gets to business with instant access to server links, New or Existing Projects, and essential resources and communities. Sometimes you have what you pay money for.
Space eater: Visual Studios primary installation needed 6GB of disk space. You may be able to perform without some components, for instance SQL Server or Sync Framework.
Needy: Visual Studio requires some additional components to try and do its job. Our 32-bit system already had VC Runtime 9 x86 Framework, but needed Microsoft Application Error Reporting, VC Runtime 10 x64 and x86, and Microsoft Visual Studios 2010 64-bit Prerequisites x64. Its a lot to set up, and remove, too, in the event you choose to not buy.
Performing and not using a dotNET: Some developers have expressed frustration with Visual Framework dependence and prefer Visual Basic 6.0.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional is big, sprawling, and expensive, around the one hand, but surprisingly intuitive and nimble for the other. We only scratched the top of its capabilities during our brief trial, but we came away impressed.
Editors note: This is an assessment of the trial version of Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional 10.0.30319.1.
From Microsoft: Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Professional is undoubtedly an integrated environment that simplifies the essential tasks of making, debugging and deploying applications. Let Visual Studio 2010 Professional unleash your imagination and easily deliver your notions.

Discover books, understand writers, read author blogs, plus more. I have written VB-code before, so needed the sunday paper that went somewhat farther than the beginning Visual BasicVisual Studio procedures. Halvorson gives a thorough breakdown of Visual Basic 2013 language essentials but additionally provides specific coding and design techniques for Windows 8.1 Windows Store apps, traditional Windows desktop apps using Windows Forms, web apps with, plus two excellent chapters on Windows Phone 8 programming. This book can also be the only book out now with Visual Studio 2013Visual Basic 2013Windows 8.1 information. I guess theres a reason hes been authoring this book that long. Highly recommended.
Thank you on your feedback.
I purchased it because I was in search of material and tools that could give me the feeling necessary to publish some engineering calculation programs that may be shared. The programs that I would like to develope would include user input, complex number calculations and result outputs. Complex numbers usually are not inherently sustained by the Basic program language, but could be handled using the appropriate sub procedures.
Dr. Michael Halvorson is superb at talking about Basic and Visual Basic programming. His Step by Step way of teaching helps it be very good for people not familiar with all the mechanics of while using the Visual Basic Software. His explanations of both programing language and software mechanics are incredibly understandable. The book is a great review and review of the Integrated Development Environment IDE in Visual Basic. Book examples were developed with all the Visual Basic Studio running under Windows 8.1. However, methods covered within the book will likely be applicable to the Visual Basic Studio installation.
It assumes which the user has some expertise in both procedural and object oriented programming. Visual Basic VB supports both techniques plus the book leads the various readers through more complex features of both. The book is divided into five parts. Parts I, II and III cover an Introduction for the Visual Basic Studio, designer interface and VB programming techniques. Parts IV and V cover data base, web programming and make contact with programming.
I have three of Dr. Halvorsons books and they're all very readable. I recommend any one of Dr. Halvorsons books which could apply to a persons application and experience level.
Thank you on your feedback.
One in the first books on VB 2013 and is particularly very well done. Very an easy task to follow the concepts and explanations. Great examples. Good explanation on the new options that come with which there are lots of to consider when developing for your Store. The author clears up much in the confusion produced by Microsoft.
I definitely recommend this book for people wanting to learn Visual Basic and VB 2013. It covers information for newbies as well as seasoned developers who require info about 2013.
Thank you for ones feedback.
A bestseller. It really is Step-By-Step.
I had to move from 32 bit VB Ver 6.0 circa a decade ago to 64 bit VB Ver 2014.
The book is much more basic than I would have preferred but reminded me of long forgotten skills, so achieved its purpose.
It is written for people who have prior example of VB so, in case you are like me and wished to refresh your memory - give this book thinking.
Thank you for the feedback.
I am not not used to Visual Basic, but I have just began to learn VB 2013. There are suggestions and explanations throughout it.
I definitely recommend this book to others.
Thank you for ones feedback.
Gret book for starters and those wanting to transition to Windows Store and Windows Phone apps. In fact, the only real book that I saw that didnt do all of it programming either in JavaScript, HTML 5 or XAML, although it did introduce to XAML in a very user friendly way.
Thank you for ones feedback.
Combined using the downloadable tutorials, this is definitely an excellent summary of VB 2013. Got me installed and operating the same day. No stranger to VB but it really was time for you to upgrade on the VB5 that Ive been using for a long time and this caused it to be relatively painless.
Thank you to your feedback.
it is often a excellent book that I recommend to anyone who did not had any previous example of in visual basics. My background is programming PLCs ladder programing or logic programing but would not had any previous experience HMI Human machine Interface that will need some knowledge in visual basics to make some on the controls. And must say, the Author itself is incredibly useful in answering and solving the down sides you encounter plus the response time rivals all major companys with there support services. For the many engineering Friends on the market, here is the sunday paper you should truly consider to own in your engineering Arsenal.
Thank you for ones feedback.

Its OK. I wish it had more useful examples. I had to examine lot of solutions within the web to supplement this book.

November 22nd 2011 - I added a new edition of the csEasyEncoder EXPress Edition program. It may be updated to version 2011. The major additional features includes the opportunity to specify the B-Frames and Reference Frames to use for your video encode, mainly for MPEG based formats. Also included may be the ability to specify the two Resolution along with the Aspect Ratio to make use of when encoding your video clips. Another addition would be the ability to make use of video de-interlacing when encoding the recording file. I likewise added the newest encoder as well as the changes that needed to get made to the program to get compatible with the latest version of the ffmpeg encoding library. Some minor changes was created as well like clearing up some code hoping to make some in the code extremely effective. The main download for that compiled program and setup installer is underneath the Software section. The example source code for Visual 2010 is within the Examples webpage and beneath the VB 2005 and Higher section nearby the bottom of their page. Hopefully the update is going to be useful to you.:
October 3rd 2011 - A new example for VB 2005 and Higher has become added on how you can very easily do Simple Zipping and Unzipping of files while using the DotNetZip library. The example itself is really quite simple and basic. It highlights the standard functions on the DotNetZip library to zip-up and compress multiple files, then unzip and uncompress the files to your specific location. I do incorporate some other code outlined also though like getting progress updates to the zipping and un-zipping operations along with the way to create a file while using the DotNetZip class. The example was created with Visual Basic 2008 nevertheless the source code is suitable for 2005 and VB 2010 too. Located around the - Visual - Examples page nearby the bottom with the page within the VB 2005 and Higher section.
September 23rd 2011 - I added a fresh example called csEasyMailer v1.0. It is really a complete program with numerous advanced features for sending electronic mails using SMTP with Google Gmail, Microsoft Hotmail, and Yahoo as being the smtp host. It has full support for multiple recipients, multiple carbon copies cc, multiple attachments plus more. It also can send email as plain text so when html. You can send multiple email views that can allow the email provider to choose which view to exhibit to the user. It has basic contacts support and support for sending email messages using a custom html based signature. It includes a feature that will permit you to preview your html email viewing its full formatting and all sorts of. It is made with VB 2008, even so the codes work in Visual 2005, and Visual Basic 2010. Located inside the - Examples section at the bottom on the page. I will have a different v1.5 version done down the line that fixes some issues and has now better support for saving contacts and the like.
June 28th 2011 - A new example for Visual 2005, 2008, and VB 2010 is added. I used Visual Basic 2008 nevertheless the code itself is usable in basically all dotNets. The example is on tips on how to get the computers total cpu usage and display that value as text inside the windows system icon tray. It will also plot a graph from the cpu usage history with lines. It uses the GetSystemTimes API call to find the total cpu usage. This is similar to your sysmonlite example but more refined and even more features. So if you wish to know the way to put or add text to your system tray, or icon tray as some think of it as, then take a look example out. Located for the - Examples, page underneath the VB 2005 and Higher section close to the bottom.
April 21st 2011 - I added a fresh example on the way to play embedded wave files appropriate for 2005, VB 2008, and Visual 2010. Shows adding file in your project after which setting the Build Action to Embedded Resource. Shows the way to access the wave file through The class and accessing the: GetManifestResourceStream stream to pass for the wave player. Uses the SoundPlayer class 2.0 and above to complete the playback of file. 1.0 and 1.1 based supports embedded resource files, it might have to make use of the PlaySund api call to complete the playback.
December 21st 2010 - Added a very nice new program I called csEasyEncoder 2010 eXPress Edition for download plus the source code inside 2005/2008/2010 - Example page. This application will encode music and videos into other formats. It can convert 4, Flash, using Video CD VCD, SVCD Super Video CD and DVD quality presets to many people different formats like thoses mentioned above and even HQ High Quality H.264 MP4, and Windows Media Video. Very easily convert Flash Video to or 4 MPEG 4 or really most with the popular formats. You can also convert Flash video. If you might have a Music Video, or perhaps a video you should only want the audio/sound/music from then the offer will strip/save/convert the audio portion only and save it as a 3 file! There are more features and formats available but cant list all of them here. This program uses ab muscles nice library to execute all in the encoding tasks. FFMPEG continues to be around for awhile and has now grown into an increasingly popular and very easy to use commandline utility for encoding/decoding media files and even more. This program completely interacts while using file and offers you a fully working gui minus the user ever traversing to a console window or perhaps suspect the encoding is arriving from a library. The example shows the way to send input commands and flags plus parse the output in the library to offer progress and media statistics to display to your user. So should you ever wished to make your Visual Basic based Video/Music encoding program without all from the major bit manipulating or paid libraries, then read this example together with the library. This can be the first program and example ive constructed with Visual Basic 2010 to date. I actually used the Express edition of The source code is 100% that will work with older versions of dotNet also. I may port it down into a older version of Visual at a later time though. The program also takes advantage of multi-core cpus/processors Dual Core, Quad Core, Hex Core, using multi-threading where possible. Some formats like wmv and flv only support just one thread though. Anyways, the csEasyEncoder 2010 eXPress setup download to the program is underneath the Downloads - Software page and also the full source code along using the and x.264 hq based preset files are located within the: Visual - Examples page, within the Visual Basic 2005/2008/2010 only section. Have fun!:
November 13th 2010 - A new example may be added using 2005 The source code itself is usable in basically ALL versions. The example is the way to determine if the os your program is running on is 32-Bit x86 or 64-Bit x64 and whether your program itself is running in 64 Bit x64 mode or perhaps in 32 Bit x86 mode. I include about 5 techniques to determine the addressing mode the OS is running on leading to 4 approaches to determine which mode the application itself is running in. Some from the methods I use is checking a registry key, using environment variables querying the PROCESSORARCHITECTURE and PROCESSORIDENTIFIER variables, API calls like GetSystemInfo/GetNativeSystemInfo, WMI and even more! You should employ a pretty good idea about the computers addressing environment after with all the methods with this example. The example can be found under: Visual - Examples page in the VB 2005/2008/2010 section called: Check If OS is 32 Bit or 64 Bit. I should also mention that Visual Basic 2010 Framework 4.0 has a whole new feature built-in called: 64BitOperatingSystem, which can be a property that may return True if the os is 64Bit and False if your os is NOT 64 bit x64 but is 32 Bit x86.
October 12th 2010 - A new as well as perhaps unique based application, setup, and example program called: csYoutubeDownload XPress1 for downloading youtube videos may be added. The example app actually has some slightly advanced features and shows how you can download a backup within your youtube videos using DownloadFileAsync, and utilize DownloadData for downloading into memory which I use just to save a copy from the thumbnail image associated together with the based video and the way to use a couple of url suggestions to get google to give you it download within the 4 based format whether its available along with the format Flash Video format. This example uses the DownloadFileAsync feature of to download the videos and can provide a whole lot of various information on the download much like the download speed, elasped time, the time is left for that video to get finished and even more! It can also let you know the title on the video, format types. I make use of a simple little class I found at that could format the youtube based urls into downloadable urls straight to it. I made the offer for my very own use and educational purposes. You should not apply it to download any videos in addition to the ones you uploaded yourself. So please remember that if you decide to work with any code out of this example. Also included a setup project just in case you ever desire to export your program by using a pretty cool setup utility that you've quite a bit of treating compared towards the very limited clickonce utility which is included inside express edition ides. Anyways, this method was constructed with Visual 2008 that 2.0. The source code works perfectly fine in Visual Basic 2005 and VB 2010. I mainly used VB 2008 as the actual program needs elevated permissions Admin Access to work correctly and uac User Account Control is less difficult to implement using VB 2008 than VB 2005 which you might have to do a hack to request elevated uac access. The example download includes the two program project source, as well as the setup project inside same solution. The compiled setup program is available within the Software area of this website. Anyways, Have fun!
July 18th 2010 - Added a different example using Visual 2005 but is fully works with VB 2008 and Visual Basic 2010. The example is tips on how to download files through the internet and after that save the contents towards the computers harddrive, usb drive or some other location for the target computer. I makes use of the Webclient class plus much more specificially the subroutine. I use this sub to download files for the computer coming from a url/uri and add 3 different handlers to fireplace a couple solutions to get progress information etc. Some from the features are obtaining the bytes the download currently is at, what size the download is. I also added custom code on finding the approximate data transfer rate the file is downloading at within Kilo-Btyes plus Kilo-Bits format, and even more minor features such as elapsed time for your current download is roofed. Another advantage of with all the DownloadFileAsync sub instead with the normal DownloadFile sub is always that it wont consume your applications thread. In other words the application will still respond and become usable while its downloading. The normal DownloadFile will build your application freeze until you run it in a very seperate thread in addition to your main programs thread. Located around the Visual - Examples page within the 2005 section. Enjoy!
July 18th 2010 - I finally got around to generate a simple program boost the website. I desire to mention the example also may include a project I made due to this program on making and customizing a setup project/executable on your programs. It shows many things you'll be able to do together with the setup options like specify the historical past image on the setup dialogs, custom icons to utilize, creating your shortcuts in the start menu, desktop, plus more! Definitely worth looking over if your needing to know alittle bit abount the Setup project type. Anyways, the revolutionary program is named csCPUTargeting eXPress v1.0. What this method does it produce the task of Targeting a cpu artchitecture alitte easier than performing it manually with all the Express Editions of Visual Basic. Basically the challenge with VB Express 2005, 2008, and VB 2010 is always that Microsoft removes the straightforward option of targeting sometimes a 32-bit cpu or 64-bit cpu to your applications. If you ever have a crash with: BadImageFormatException error together with the message: An attempt appeared to load a course with an incorrect format. Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B maybe it's a cpu targeting problem. Usually automatically your applications uses the AnyCPU targeting option that can run within 32-bit x86 and 64-bit x64 systems. But shall we say your accessing a normal C that has been compiled and setup for your 32-bit x86 format and the application is running in 64-bit mode. You could adequately get that Incorrect Format crash when your targeting a x86, 32-bit assembly. By specifying your applications to perform specifically in 32-bit mode your applications will interop just great the way its designed to with x86 32-bit assemblies. Anyways, what this tool does is load file to your project and put in a line of xml code:
Between those tags it is possible to put either x86 for 32-bit or x64 for 64-bit targeting. The application can make it possible to add the code to either/both Debug and Release configurations. Then the tool preserves the edited file using the changes you've made. You also have the alternative to backup your original project file likewise along with another features. The compiled execute will likely be under the: Software section in the site as well as the programs source code will probably be on the: Visual - Examples webpage. This tool was developed using Visual Basic 2005 and includes some code commenting likewise. Anyways, hopefully this application and/or source code are going to be useful to you. BTW, the XML added towards the project file is:
with either x86 or x64 inserted between tags.:
December 30th 09 - Site has finally been upgraded with something! To bad its nothing much to create home about. But anyways, Ive added a brand new application example called: csWindowsCDKeyTool v1.0 that will find the DigitalProductID from the installed operating system after which convert/decode/decrpyt that value which would be the cd key with the windows currently installed. The GetProductID secret's located inside system registry under: HKEYLOCALMACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersion. The code that does the particular transformation on the product id code to the windows cdkey was Not created by me. The example lists the possible author from the code. Anyways, I added another stuff to your app that may get many various info within the windows installation, like whether windows is 64-bit or 32-bit. The code uses wmi Windows Management Instrumentation utilizing the reference and together with ManagementObject class to check on whether the os is Windows 32 Bit or 64 Bit32bit/64bit. The rest in the code uses the framework, and environment variables to find the info. The cd key tool blends with ALL versions of WindowsXP, Windows Vista, and Windows7 Should work around the servers at the same time like Windows Server 2008. The example vb code is VB 2005 and Visual Basic 2008 compatible and located underneath the 2005/2008 examples page. Have Fun!
December 30th 09 - As you may already know just, this website has not undergone an update in more than a year. Ive been very busy building and fixing computers and havnt had the desire to perform any sort of programming either. But I needed to update the website with something prior to year ended. So I is going to be adding a simple application example on receiving the windows cdkey shortly.
September 21st 08 - A new application called: csComputerInfoTool v1.2 - The Vista Edition continues to be added in the software section. The example is beneath the 2005/2008 - Examples page. This app uses the registry, performance counters, Windows Management Instrumentation WMI, and Framework to get a whole lot of various info about the computers cpu/processor, motherboard, video card, memory/ram, c: hard disk drive, and also the Windows OS. The tool was developed with Microsoft Vista in mind however it may work fine in Windows XP. Some features or problems could pop-up though. IF you would just like the example then a OS shouldnt matter unless an attribute is not available from the older systems.
August 19th 08 - A new example for 2005/2008 is added on the best way to set cpu/core affinity for your applications process. It uses the Property located inside the Process Class. Since many computers right now are running AMD Athlon X2s and Intel Core2s you may desire to set which core you wish the process to perform on. The example was developed 2005 nevertheless the codes will give you results with earlier Visual 2002/2003 versions of vb.
August 5th 08 - A 05/08 example has become added on tips on how to get some lower level volume details about a hard drive or any other disk drive. It uses the GetVolumeInformation API which returns the volumes serial number, filesystem, maximum supported characters and the like. Located around the - Examples page underneath the VB 2005/2008 section. While this API does return a distinctive serial number when querying a hardcore disk drive, it would be the serial number with the Volume and NOT the specific Manufactors serial number given on the harddrive. To get that it is possible to use WMI Windows Management Instrumentation that should give you the true serial number value for that harddisk. An example are going to be added soon. The WMI class you need to use is: Win32PhysicalMedia as well as the property to make use of is: SerialNumber. Just in case you needed to know.:
July 15th 08 - I added a whole new example for VB 2005 and/or VB 2008 on tips on how to play movies and videos with your windows desktop. I also included code on the way to set the transparency/opacity level to the movie window so you may see what exactly is behind the screen only. I didnt include any position or resizing code simply because this simple example targets basic playing of videos and films while setting the desktop as being the parent for your movies window screen. The older csMovieLibrary has all of the features though if you desire them and includes Much more also So does the VB 6 based Movie Module class library. While this project wont open in Pre-2005 ides, the codes within this example should be suitable for 02/03 versions with just some minor code changes. Even VB6 may use the codes with code changes. I may will include a example for VB 6 inside the future though. I guess it is also worth mentioning that app plays most all on the popular movie formats such as the extensions. But it can engage in mpeg4 divx, apples quicktime mov, or anything else as long because the codec for your format is installed. Thats all for the time being!
June 11th 08 - The complete source code to my csAudioCD Library v2.5 for VB 2005/2008 is released. It is in the - Controls page version 2.5. Read the license agreement from the source code. Have fun:
May 8th 08 - Another example for 2005 and 2008 may be added that shows how to change this class to keep pairs of strings inside a collection. IT shows how you can add, remove, count, find/search for items plus much more. This String Dictionary example is within the Visual - Examples page close to the bottom within the 2005/2008 area.
May 7th 08 - A new class is added called csAudioCD Library v2.5 - The Professional and Enhanced Edition for VB 2005 and VB 2008. This will be the ultimate class library made out of Visual Basic 2005 for making a very feature rich audio CD player based application. There are 50 plus features available and are also very all to easy to understand and rehearse. Most all from the subs/functions/propertys are fully XML commented with descriptions and explanations. It certainly has your basic play/stop/pause features but some with the other features include closing and opening the CDRom and/or DVDRom drive, auto-scan laptop computer for available CD/DVD drives which enables it to detect whether a CD Disk is within the drive and see if it is a audio cd or you cannot. IT can return some useful information about the CD contributing to the tracks within the CDs. Has available different time-format features also for obtaining the length and playing position for the audio CD along with the Tracks for that CD. Way to a lot of features to list out here. A example application has been added that shows the way to use this library and implement some of that features. The compiled class on it's own is about the - Controls page as well as the Example application which already includes the compiled is available within the - Examples page underneath the Visual Basic 2005 and Visual Basic 2008 section. I might release the origin code for the class library soon. Have Fun!
April 21st 08 - A new example for 2005 and Visual Basic 2008 may be added that shows tips on how to create a fairly easy image or picture viewer and features a simple slideshow feature. The slide show go through the listing of images while having an easy pause before each image changes. There can be a audio sound or music feature too if you need to play a audio file whilst the slideshow is running. The example shows tips on how to use a sortedlist that has a key and value linked to that answer to hold the entire path on the image but rendering it so the user will only start to see the filename rather then having to view the entire path while using filename. There are basic picture/image Left and Right rotation features likewise. Located from the 2005/2008 - Examples page at the bottom from the page.
April 8th 08 - A new example for Visual Basic 6.0 may be added which simply shows a couple of ways on how you can check if a file or even a directory or folder exists for the specified path you aren't. It uses the Dir function and also the FileSystemObject inside Windows Script Host Object Model to perform the checking. Located inside VB 5.0 and VB 6.0 - Examples page.
April 6th 08 - There were two new examples added for the site. One is made for Classic VB plus the other is perfect for They are both on the way to hide or show the caret blinking cursor for any textbox and combobox control while using HideCaret and ShowCaret API calls. Remember that this control whose caret you desire to hide/show Must be the owner in the caret on the time of calling these APIs. Also if the control loses ownership with the caret it is going to reset the caret and you'll have to call the HideCaret API call again. But if you desire the caret blinking, flashing; cursor or whatever you desire to call it to keep hidden try putting the HideCaret code inside controls GotFocus event. Which whenever the control gets focus, it's going to hide the caret on the user even when another control temorary gets ownership.
March 24th 08 - Another example for was added also. This example uses the LinkLabel control to mimick a genuine webpage link. The control will be and work like a common link on the webpage. When the link is clicked, it is going to open the default webbrowser application and load the address specified inside LinkData property from the control. Compatible with VBs including Visual Basic 2005 and 2008.
March 24th 08 - A new example for is added named Ultimate Textbox Manipulating. As the name entails it shows how to complete Many things together with the standard textbox control. Some with the codes are: searching, selecting text, page right/left, line right/left, page up/down, line up/down, getting line and character information, in addition to cut/copy/paste and adding, replacing, selecting text. Check out the example and the screenshot to find out what all is obtainable.
March 13th 08 - I updated the version in the Scrolling Textbox to Top/Bottom example. There is now an alternate way to scroll the textbox editbox on the top and bottom my with all the Windows API. It uses the SendMEssage API to become precise. I anticipate doing the update to your regular visual basic version down the line sometime.
March 10th 08 - Added two new examples towards the site. One is for along with the other is made for Visual Basic 5.0/6.0. They are both on the way to scroll/move for the top/beginning of any textbox controls text contents as scroll or move towards the bottom/end on the textbox controls contents.
March 8th 08 - If download server is down, you are able to to try and obtain the download. Example: might be changed to: I will make an effort to eventually include a secondary/backup link on all on the website pages like I did about the VB Classic - Examples page.
March 8th 08 - A new example for continues to be added that may check a IP, URL, or UNC Universal Naming Convention name utilizing the IsDestinationReachable Windows API call to find out if it can be reachable or you cannot. It can return the back and forth from speed from the network used to test and achieve the destination along together with the type of network available. This can somewhat be considered a pinging example inside a sense nevertheless, you wouldnt get accurate reply times considering that the API will also find the Network type and also the To/From speed before returning control in your application. But it'd be good to view if a nominated destination is available or otherwise. VB 05/2008 already includes a full Ping class for checking a destination. I would recommend you make use of that class if using those versions if you don't want the network to/from speed or whatnot.
March 5th 08 - An example for Visual continues to be added that shows the best way to convert Unix Time to your Structured Windows based time. It converts and displays the Unix time depending on UTC Time plus the Computers Local Timezone. The example displays the latest Timezone as well as the Timezone offset as compared to UTC Coordinated Universal Time or Universal Time Coordinate at the same time. This example is appropriate for all versions including VB 2005 and VB 2008. A simple upgrade process is perhaps all thats meant for 05/08.
March 4th 08 - A new example for has become addded. Its basically a near clone with the VB 6.0 version that utilizes the GetPerformanceInfo API Function to obtain various low level computer information. It mainly returns various memory info as well as some thread and paging data. I am virtually Computer Infoed out so I may well not be making anymore computer performance info data examples.
March 3rd 08 - I went ahead and changed the download links to point out to my web server. The server is down and I do not have any idea when it are going to be running again. But anyways, all with the downloads and screenshots SHOULD be working. Please send me a feedback message if there can be a download no longer working.
March 2nd 08 - As you may know is the downloads are currently broken. Unfortunately the server that all on the downloads and screenshots are saved to is down currently. All I can tell you at the moment is to attempt again later. Sorry:
February 19th 08 - A new example for Visual Basic 6.0 and 5.0 is added on how you can get hi-res timing with all the QueryPerformanceCounter and QueryPerformanceFrequency API counters. This timer supports sub-millisecond resolutions laptop computer than timeGetTime and better compared to the getTickCount timer. This timer will usually make use of a 3.6 Mhz clock within the motherboard for timing but often it could make use of processors rdtsc counter. Examine the QueryPerformanceFrequency returned data from the ByRef parameter to determine what the ticks per second with the timer is. If the function returns a 0 next the computer does Not secure the timer otherwise you did NOT pass the APIs parameter ByRefBy Reference and that is Required. Do Not pass the parameters of these two 2 QueryPerformance APIs ByValBy Value given that they WILL fail. You Must pass them ByRef. IF you need very precise timing, than the counter should be how to go.
February 18th 08 - Another example for Visual 2002/2003 and appropriate for VB 2005/2008 may be added. This example shows how you can perform basic Math calculations using string variables/objects. It shows the Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division based operators. The main purpose I guess is how you can perform Math operations on Strings within a somewhat safer way. It basically uses the Val Function that may examine a string and should the string is really a number or in the event the string starts having a number then it's going to convert a object/string with a double or maybe a Char to some integer type. IF the string contains no number or doesnt begin having a number then it can simply return a 0 that could keep you from throwing a improper casting error message and/or crashing. A VB 6.0 version may be placed up soon.
February 17th 08 - A small example constructed with Visual may be added that shows the way to use delegates and callbacks to build and make use of a higher resolution windows based API Event Timer. This example uses the timeSetEvent/timeKillEvent APIs which assists much higher resolutions as opposed to original SetTimer/KillTimer APIs at about 1 milli seconds when compared with 15-16ms. This timer is a part with the multi-media library which includes most with the multi-media based apis such as the Playsound and mciSendString apis. Anyways, its positioned in - Examples page.
February 8th 08 - A new example made using Visual 2008 on utilizing the Managed Windows API Timer through the DotNET Framework was added. The codes within this example is works with 2005 nevertheless the project will Not load in 2005. The managed timer was added version 2.0 from the framework which VB 2005 is determined by. This example shows how you can create a timer and possess it call a function within your choice everytime the specified interval has elapsed. This timer appears to get a managed wrapper about the SetTimer/KillTimer APIs from your library that I created a example for any few weeks ago. The resolution is just about 15/16ms. You can try while using the Un-Managed multi-media timeSetEvent/timeKillEvent APIs that helps resolutions around 1ms and is particularly based about the library. I do possess a example on these multi-media apis but never released it. I may do that afterwards though.
February 8th 08 - The example on the way to Clear All Textboxes, Manipulate or Set properties for all those conrols using a form has become updated. The update has new codes that shows tips on how to skip over or bypass controls specified from the code and clear or set the rest from the controls that are Not specified to skip.
January 29th 08 - I added a different Control I made using C with stdcall exports so it may be used by Visual Basic under - Controls page. The control will return some various basic cpu info much like the model, vendor, stepping, clockspeed, A example on how to change the library made out of 2002/2003 and appropriate for Visual Basic 2005/2008 has become added to - Examples page.
January 28th 08 - I supposed to post this along time ago but forgot too. Microsoft presenting available all from the Visual 2008 Examples that have been included with all the RTM Released To Manufacture versions being a seperate download. There are actually very MANY examples accessible for Visual Basic 2008 that covers anything from Excel, Powerpoint to LINQ, Tablet Based Programming, Server based, and Database programming. While the examples may NOT open with VB 2005, the codes in many in the examples should work together with Visual Basic 2005 also. Obviously examples like LINQ based source code wont work 2005 since LINQ wasn't supported until VS 2008. Anyways, Click this Link should your interested. The download is alittle a lot more than 9 MB, so if you've Dial-Up although it awhile.:
January 24th 08 - An example for Visual may be added that shows tips on how to get the Textbox Controls - current line number in 2002/2003 The VB 2005 and VB 2008 Textbox features a feature with this, but is Not within this example. Might add later, having the total amounts of lines inside the textbox, and receiving the text/characters for the current line position.
January 17th 08 - A new example for Visual Basic 6.0 the code from the example is VB 5.0 compatible is added that shows how to operate the GetEnvironmentVariable API call function to reach some pre-defined variables and get/retrieve their values. You can see some Environment Variables in case you go to your Start then Settings menu and then click on Control Panel. Click around the System icon and the Advanced tab. Click around the button that claims Environment Variables that should display a window with pre defined variables and values.
January 16th 08 - I added Two 2x new Examples for Visual Basic 6.0 Codes really should be usable in 5.0. Both examples are linked to using two from the available system timers/counters. Since I use a few timer related examples for, I figured I would carry out the same for VB Classic. So one of them examples uses the GetTickCount API Function along with the other example uses the timeGetTime API Function along while using timeBeginPeriod and timeEndPeriod API calls. The GetTickCount timer/counter supports about 15 ms resolutions, whilst the timeGetTime counter/timer supports around 1 millisecond resolutions. Go for the VB - Examples page under Timing to test out the examples. I might make a couple more Timing related examples with the 5.0/6.0 versions employing a Very High sub-millisecond Resolution performance counter-timerQueryPerformanceCounter and maybe another on the super high quality timerRDSC.
January 8th 08 - Edit: All on the downloads are in work again. IF you find any downloads or links bust please send a straightforward feedback message to me in the Send Feedback page.
January 5th 08 - A example for 2003 2002 likewise and works with VB 2005, Visual Basic 2008 continues to be added. The example is how to perform some basic Form/Application effects using API codes. Some with the animations is often a Left to Right, Right to Left, Top to Bottom, and Bottom to Top directional effects. Some special effects is Blend, Roll, and Slide. You can also specify how quickly or slow the result will take place. At - Examples page.

November 22nd 2011 - I added a new edition of the csEasyEncoder EXPress Edition program. It is updated to version 2011. The major additional features includes a chance to specify the B-Frames and Reference Frames to use to the video encode, mainly for MPEG based formats. Also included will be the ability to specify the Resolution and also the Aspect Ratio make use of when encoding your video clips. Another addition will be the ability to work with video de-interlacing when encoding it file. I likewise added the newest encoder plus the changes that needed to get made for that program to become compatible with the new edition of the ffmpeg encoding library. Some minor changes appeared as well like clearing up some code looking to make some in the code more effective. The main download with the compiled program and setup installer is beneath the Software section. The example source code for Visual 2010 is for the Examples webpage and in the VB 2005 and Higher section close to the bottom of their page. Hopefully the update is going to be useful to you.:
October 3rd 2011 - A new example for VB 2005 and Higher may be added on the best way to very easily do Simple Zipping and Unzipping of files while using DotNetZip library. The example itself is simple and basic. It highlights the standard functions on the DotNetZip library to zip-up and compress multiple files, then unzip and uncompress the files to some specific location. I do incorporate some other code outlined at the same time though like getting progress updates with the zipping and un-zipping operations along with the best way to create a file utilizing the DotNetZip class. The example was created with Visual Basic 2008 even so the source code is suitable for 2005 and VB 2010 also. Located around the - Visual - Examples page close to the bottom with the page underneath the VB 2005 and Higher section.
September 23rd 2011 - I added a fresh example called csEasyMailer v1.0. It is often a complete program with many different advanced features for sending messages using SMTP with Google Gmail, Microsoft Hotmail, and Yahoo because the smtp host. It has full support for multiple recipients, multiple carbon copies cc, multiple attachments and even more. It also can send email as plain text so that as html. You can send multiple email views that will allow the email provider to determine which view to indicate to the user. It has basic contacts support and support for sending email messages using a custom html based signature. It incorporates a feature that will you to preview your html email viewing its full formatting and all of. It is made with VB 2008, even so the codes will continue to work in Visual 2005, and Visual Basic 2010. Located inside - Examples section close to the bottom on the page. I will have a different v1.5 version done down the road that fixes some issues and it has better support for saving contacts etc.
June 28th 2011 - A new example for Visual 2005, 2008, and VB 2010 has become added. I used Visual Basic 2008 though the code itself is usable in basically all dotNets. The example is on the best way to get the computers total cpu usage and display that value as text within the windows system icon tray. It will also plot a graph on the cpu usage history with lines. It uses the GetSystemTimes API call to obtain the total cpu usage. This is similar for the sysmonlite example but more refined and even more features. So if you need to know the best way to put or add text to your system tray, or icon tray as some it is known as, then take a look example out. Located on the - Examples, page within the VB 2005 and Higher section nearby the bottom.
April 21st 2011 - I added a different example on how you can play embedded wave files works with 2005, VB 2008, and Visual 2010. Shows adding file on your project and after that setting the Build Action to Embedded Resource. Shows the best way to access the wave file through The class and accessing the: GetManifestResourceStream stream to pass to your wave player. Uses the SoundPlayer class 2.0 and above to carry out the playback of file. 1.0 and 1.1 based supports embedded resource files, it'd have to make use of the PlaySund api call to do the playback.
December 21st 2010 - Added a very good new program I called csEasyEncoder 2010 eXPress Edition for download plus the source code inside 2005/2008/2010 - Example page. This application will encode music and videos into other formats. It can convert 4, Flash, using Video CD VCD, SVCD Super Video CD and DVD quality presets to a lot of different formats like thoses stated earlier and even HQ High Quality H.264 MP4, and Windows Media Video. Very easily convert Flash Video to or 4 MPEG 4 or really most with the popular formats. You can also convert Flash video. If you might have a Music Video, or maybe a video you merely want the audio/sound/music from then the offer will strip/save/convert the audio portion only and save it as being 3 file! There are more features and formats available but cant list all of them here. This program uses the actual nice library to execute all with the encoding tasks. FFMPEG may be around for awhile and it has grown into the most popular and simple to use commandline utility for encoding/decoding media files and even more. This program completely interacts together with the file and provides you a fully working gui without worrying about user ever visiting a console window or maybe suspect the encoding is resulting from a library. The example shows the way to send input commands and flags plus parse the output from your library to produce progress and media statistics to display on the user. So when you ever wished to make your Visual Basic based Video/Music encoding program without all from the major bit manipulating or paid libraries, then look at this example together with the library. This is usually the first program and example ive constructed with Visual Basic 2010 to this point. I actually used the Express edition of The source code is 100% works with older versions of dotNet also. I may port it down with a older version of Visual later on though. The program also takes advantage of multi-core cpus/processors Dual Core, Quad Core, Hex Core, using multi-threading where possible. Some formats like wmv and flv only support one particular thread though. Anyways, the csEasyEncoder 2010 eXPress setup download to the program is in the Downloads - Software page along with the full source code along with all the and x.264 hq based preset files are located underneath the: Visual - Examples page, inside the Visual Basic 2005/2008/2010 only section. Have fun!:
November 13th 2010 - A new example has become added using 2005 The source code itself is usable in basically ALL versions. The example is the best way to determine if the main system your program is running on is 32 - Bit x86 or 64- Bit x64 and whether your program itself is running in 64 Bit x64 mode or perhaps in 32 Bit x86 mode. I include about 5 techniques to determine the addressing mode the OS is running on leading to 4 methods to determine which mode the job itself is running in. Some from the methods I use is checking a registry key, using environment variables querying the PROCESSORARCHITECTURE and PROCESSORIDENTIFIER variables, API calls like GetSystemInfo/GetNativeSystemInfo, WMI and much more! You should possess a pretty good idea about the computers addressing environment after with all the methods in this particular example. The example can be found under: Visual - Examples page underneath the VB 2005/2008/2010 section called: Check If OS is 32 Bit or 64 Bit. I should also mention that Visual Basic 2010 Framework 4.0 has a different feature built-in called: 64BitOperatingSystem, which can be a property that could return True if the main system is 64Bit and False in the event the os is NOT 64 bit x64 but is 32 Bit x86.
October 12th 2010 - A new and possibly unique based application, setup, and example program called: csYoutubeDownload XPress1 for downloading youtube videos has become added. The example app actually has some slightly advanced features and shows the way to download a backup of your respective youtube videos using DownloadFileAsync, and make use of DownloadData for downloading into memory which I use in order to save a copy from the thumbnail image associated with all the based video and tips on how to use a few url tips to get google to give you the recording download inside 4 based format whether it is available and also the format Flash Video format. This example uses the DownloadFileAsync feature of to download the videos and may provide numerous various info regarding the download much like the download speed, elasped time, the time is left for your video being finished plus more! It can also inform you the title on the video, format types. I work with a simple little class I found at that can format the youtube based urls into downloadable urls straight to the playback quality. I made the offer for the use and educational purposes. You should not make use of it to download any videos in addition to the ones you uploaded yourself. So please always remember that if you decide to make use of any code out of this example. Also included a setup project just in case you ever would like to export your program by using a pretty cool setup utility that you might have quite a bit of treatments for compared to your very limited clickonce utility which is included inside the express edition ides. Anyways, the program was created using Visual 2008 that 2.0. The source code will continue to work perfectly fine in Visual Basic 2005 and VB 2010. I mainly used VB 2008 as the actual program needs elevated permissions Admin Access to be effective and uac User Account Control much simpler to implement using VB 2008 than VB 2005 which you've to do a hack to request elevated uac access. The example download includes the two program project source, as well as the setup project within the same solution. The compiled setup program is available inside Software a part of this website. Anyways, Have fun!
July 18th 2010 - Added a fresh example using Visual 2005 but is fully works with VB 2008 and Visual Basic 2010. The example is the way to download files through the internet and save the contents on the computers harddrive, usb drive or another location about the target computer. I make use of the Webclient class and much more specificially the subroutine. I use this sub to download files for the computer from your url/uri and add 3 different handlers to fireside a couple ways to get progress information etc. Some from the features are becoming the bytes the download is now at, the dimensions of the download is. I also added custom code on obtaining the approximate data transfer speed the file is downloading at in Kilo-Btyes as well as in Kilo-Bits format, plus much more minor features such as the elapsed time with the current download is protected. Another advantage of utilizing the DownloadFileAsync sub instead on the normal DownloadFile sub is the fact it wont consume your applications thread. In other words you will still respond and become usable while its downloading. The normal DownloadFile will help make your application freeze should you not run it within a seperate thread in addition to your main programs thread. Located around the Visual - Examples page in the 2005 section. Enjoy!
July 18th 2010 - I finally got around to generate a simple program boost the website. I would like to mention which the example can also include a project I made with this program on making and customizing a setup project/executable for the programs. It shows many things you may do together with the setup options like specify the setting image with the setup dialogs, custom icons to work with, putting together your shortcuts into your start menu, desktop, and many more! Definitely worth looking over if your attempting to know alittle bit abount the Setup project type. Anyways, the revolutionary program is known as csCPUTargeting eXPress v1.0. What the program does it create the task of Targeting a cpu artchitecture alitte easier than executing it manually utilizing the Express Editions of Visual Basic. Basically the situation with VB Express 2005, 2008, and VB 2010 is always that Microsoft removes the straightforward option of targeting the 32 - bit cpu or 64- bit cpu for the applications. If you ever obtain a crash with: BadImageFormatException error using the message: An attempt appeared to load a course with an incorrect format. Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007000B maybe it's a cpu targeting problem. Usually automatically your applications uses the AnyCPU targeting option that may run in the 32 - bit x86 and 64- bit x64 os's. But for this example your accessing a typical C which was compiled and setup to the 32 - bit x86 format and the application is running in 64- bit mode. You could wonderfully get that Incorrect Format crash as your targeting a x86, 32 - bit assembly. By specifying your applications to own specifically in 32 - bit mode your applications will interop perfectly the way its used to with x86 32 - bit assemblies. Anyways, what this tool does is load file for ones project and put in a line of xml code :
Between those tags you'll be able to put either x86 for 32 - bit or x64 for 64- bit targeting. The application helps it be possible to add the code to either/both Debug and Release configurations. Then the tool helps you to save the edited file while using changes you've made. You also have the alternative to backup your original project file likewise along with various other features. The compiled execute will probably be under the: Software section in the site as well as the programs source code will likely be on the: Visual - Examples webpage. This tool was created using Visual Basic 2005 and includes some code commenting at the same time. Anyways, hopefully this application and/or source code will likely be useful to you. BTW, the XML added to your project file is:
with either x86 or x64 inserted between your tags.:
December 30th 09 - Site has finally undergone an update with something! To bad its nothing much to write down home about. But anyways, Ive added a fresh application example called: csWindowsCDKeyTool v1.0 that will have the DigitalProductID in the installed operating system after which convert/decode/decrpyt that value which may be the cd key with the windows currently installed. The GetProductID secret's located inside system registry under: HKEYLOCALMACHINESOFTWARE Microsoft Windows NTCurrentVersion. The code that does the exact transformation on the product id code into your windows cdkey was Not expressed by me. The example lists the possible author with the code. Anyways, I added a few other stuff to your app that can get numerous various info for the windows installation, like whether windows is 64- bit or 32 - bit. The code uses wmi Windows Management Instrumentation while using the reference and along with the ManagementObject class to test whether the os is Windows 32 Bit or 64 Bit 32bit/64bit. The rest in the code uses the framework, and environment variables to find the info. The cd key tool blends with ALL versions of WindowsXP, Windows Vista, and Windows7 Should work for the servers also like Windows Server 2008. The example vb code is VB 2005 and Visual Basic 2008 compatible and located beneath the 2005/2008 examples page. Have Fun!
December 30th 09 - As you may may have learned, this great site has not been upgraded in more than a year. Ive been very busy building and fixing computers and havnt had the desire to accomplish any style of programming either. But I wished to update the web page with something prior to a year ended. So I are going to be adding a simple application example on finding the windows cdkey shortly.
September 21st 08 - A new application called: csComputerInfoTool v1.2 - The Vista Edition has become added within the software section. The example is beneath the 2005/2008 - Examples page. This app uses the registry, performance counters, Windows Management Instrumentation WMI, and Framework to get a lot of various info for the computers cpu/processor, motherboard, video card, memory/ram, c: hard disk drive, along with the Windows OS. The tool was created with Microsoft Vista in mind however it may work fine in Windows XP. Some features or problems could appear though. IF you simply wish the example then your OS shouldnt matter unless an element is not available inside older systems.
August 19th 08 - A new example for 2005/2008 continues to be added on the best way to set cpu/core affinity in your applications process. It uses the Property located inside Process Class. Since many computers today are running AMD Athlon X2s and Intel Core2s you may would like to set which core you need the process running on. The example is made 2005 though the codes do give you results with earlier Visual 2002/2003 versions of vb.
August 5th 08 - A 05/08 example has become added on how you can get some lower level volume details about a hard drive or some other disk drive. It uses the GetVolumeInformation API which returns the volumes serial number, filesystem, maximum supported characters and the like. Located within the - Examples page underneath the VB 2005/2008 section. While this API does return an exceptional serial number when querying a challenging disk drive, it will be the serial number for that Volume and NOT your Manufactors serial number given for the harddrive. To get that it is possible to use WMI Windows Management Instrumentation that ought to give you the true serial number value for your harddisk. An example will probably be added soon. The WMI class you need to use is: Win32PhysicalMedia along with the property to make use of is: SerialNumber. Just in case you wished to know.:
July 15th 08 - I added a whole new example for VB 2005 and/or VB 2008 on the way to play movies and videos on your own windows desktop. I also included code on tips on how to set the transparency/opacity level for your movie window so you are able to see what on earth is behind the screen only. I didnt include any position or resizing code because this simple example concentrates on basic playing of videos and flicks while setting the desktop since the parent to the movies window screen. The older csMovieLibrary has all those features though if you wish them and includes Much more also So does the VB 6 based Movie Module class library. While this project wont open in Pre-2005 ides, the codes in this particular example should be suitable for 02/03 versions with just some minor code changes. Even VB6 can make use of the codes with code changes. I may incorporate a example for VB 6 within the future though. I guess it is also worth mentioning until this app plays most all from the popular movie formats such as the extensions. But it can enjoy mpeg4 divx, apples quicktime mov, and many more as long since the codec to the format is installed. Thats all for the present time!
June 11th 08 - The complete source code to my csAudioCD Library v2.5 for VB 2005/2008 continues to be released. It is underneath the - Controls page version 2.5. Read the license agreement inside the source code. Have fun:
May 8th 08 - Another example for 2005 and 2008 has become added that shows ways to use the class to keep pairs of strings within a collection. IT shows tips on how to add, remove, count, find/search for items and even more. This String Dictionary example is for the Visual - Examples page at the bottom underneath the 2005/2008 area.
May 7th 08 - A new class has become added called csAudioCD Library v2.5 - The Professional and Enhanced Edition for VB 2005 and VB 2008. This would be the ultimate class library constructed with Visual Basic 2005 to generate a very feature rich audio CD player based application. There are 50 features available and therefore are very all to easy to understand and rehearse. Most all in the subs/functions/propertys are fully XML commented with descriptions and explanations. It needless to say has your basic play/stop/pause features but some in the other features include buying and selling the CDRom and/or DVDRom drive, auto-scan laptop for available CD/DVD drives which enables it to detect whether a CD Disk is from the drive and see if it is a audio cd or otherwise. IT can return some useful info regarding the CD leading to the tracks within the CDs. Has available different time-format features at the same time for receiving the length and playing position for both audio CD along with the Tracks for that CD. Way to a lot of features to list out here. A example application has been added that shows the best way to use this library and implement some of their features. The compiled class alone is about the - Controls page along with the Example application which already includes the compiled is available around the - Examples page in the Visual Basic 2005 and Visual Basic 2008 section. I might release the original source code on the class library soon. Have Fun!
April 21st 08 - A new example for 2005 and Visual Basic 2008 may be added that shows the way to create an easy image or picture viewer and features a rudimentary slideshow feature. The slide show go through the number of images while having an effective pause before each image changes. There is often a audio sound or music feature likewise if you need to play a audio file even though the slideshow is running. The example shows how you can use a sortedlist which has a key and value in connection with that answer to hold the entire path with the image but so that it is so the user will only start to see the filename rather then having to understand the entire path using the filename. There are basic picture/image Left and Right rotation features at the same time. Located from the 2005/2008 - Examples page near to the bottom on the page.
April 8th 08 - A new example for Visual Basic 6.0 continues to be added which simply shows a few ways on the way to check if a file or maybe a directory or folder exists for the specified path or otherwise. It uses the Dir function and also the FileSystemObject inside Windows Script Host Object Model to perform the checking. Located inside the VB 5.0 and VB 6.0 - Examples page.
April 6th 08 - There were two new examples added towards the site. One is perfect for Classic VB plus the other is designed for They are both on the way to hide or show the caret blinking cursor for just a textbox and combobox control while using HideCaret and ShowCaret API calls. Remember how the control whose caret you would like to hide/show Must be the owner in the caret for the time of calling these APIs. Also if the control loses ownership on the caret it'll reset the caret you could to call the HideCaret API call again. But if you desire the caret blinking, flashing; cursor or whatever you would like to call it to keep hidden try putting the HideCaret code inside the controls GotFocus event. Which whenever the control gets focus, it can hide the caret through the user even though another control temorary gets ownership.
March 24th 08 - Another example for was added likewise. This example uses the LinkLabel control to mimick a true webpage link. The control can look and work like a common link over a webpage. When the link is clicked, it can open the default webbrowser application and load the address specified from the LinkData property from the control. Compatible with VBs including Visual Basic 2005 and 2008.
March 24th 08 - A new example for continues to be added named Ultimate Textbox Manipulating. As the name entails it shows how to complete Many things together with the standard textbox control. Some on the codes are: searching, selecting text, page right/left, line right/left, page up/down, line up/down, getting line and character information, together with cut/copy/paste and adding, replacing, selecting text. Check out the example or screenshot to view what all can be obtained.
March 13th 08 - I updated the version with the Scrolling Textbox to Top/Bottom example. There is now a different way to scroll the textbox editbox for the top and bottom my with all the Windows API. It uses the SendMEssage API for being precise. I anticipate doing the update for the regular visual basic version down the line sometime.
March 10th 08 - Added two new examples towards the site. One is for as well as the other is perfect for Visual Basic 5.0/6.0. They are both on how you can scroll/move towards the top/beginning of an textbox controls text contents basically scroll or move to your bottom/end on the textbox controls contents.
March 8th 08 - If download server is down, you may to try and obtain the download. Example: may be changed to: I will try and eventually include a secondary/backup link on all in the website pages like I did about the VB Classic - Examples page.
March 8th 08 - A new example for may be added that can check a IP, URL, or UNC Universal Naming Convention name while using the IsDestinationReachable Windows API call to view if it can be reachable or otherwise. It can return the back and forth speed with the network used to test and make it to the destination along together with the type of network available. This can somewhat be considered a pinging example inside a sense however you wouldnt get accurate reply times because the API will also have the Network type along with the To/From speed before returning control for your application. But it could be good to view if a particular destination is available or you cannot. VB 05/2008 already carries a full Ping class for checking a destination. I would recommend you utilize that class if using those versions until you want the network to/from speed or whatnot.
March 5th 08 - An example for Visual is added that shows how you can convert Unix Time into a Structured Windows based time. It converts and displays the Unix time according to UTC Time as well as the Computers Local Timezone. The example displays the present Timezone as well as the Timezone offset in comparison with UTC Coordinated Universal Time or Universal Time Coordinate also. This example is that will work with all versions including VB 2005 and VB 2008. A simple upgrade process is thats required for 05/08.
March 4th 08 - A new example for has become addded. Its basically a near clone in the VB 6.0 version which uses the GetPerformanceInfo API Function to obtain various low level computer information. It mainly returns various memory info in addition to some thread and paging data. I am basically Computer Infoed out so I might not be making anymore computer performance info data examples.
March 3rd 08 - I went ahead and changed the download links to suggest to my web server. The server is down and I lack any idea when it are going to be running again. But anyways, all with the downloads and screenshots SHOULD be working. Please send me a feedback message if there is usually a download broken.
March 2nd 08 - As you may may have learned is the downloads are currently no longer working. Unfortunately the server that all from the downloads and screenshots are stored on is down right now. All I can tell you right this moment is to attempt again later. Sorry:
February 19th 08 - A new example for Visual Basic 6.0 and 5.0 continues to be added on the best way to get high quality timing while using QueryPerformanceCounter and QueryPerformanceFrequency API counters. This timer supports sub-millisecond resolutions laptop computer than timeGetTime and a lot better versus the getTickCount timer. This timer will usually work with a 3.6 Mhz clock about the motherboard for timing but it often could make use of processors rdtsc counter. Examine the QueryPerformanceFrequency returned data from the ByRef parameter to determine what the ticks per second on the timer is. If the function returns a 0 then this computer does Not offer the timer otherwise you did NOT pass the APIs parameter ByRefBy Reference that's Required. Do Not pass the parameters of these two 2 QueryPerformance APIs ByValBy Value given that they WILL fail. You Must pass them ByRef. IF you need very precise timing, next the counter should be the best way to go.
February 18th 08 - Another example for Visual 2002/2003 and that will work with VB 2005/2008 has become added. This example shows how you can perform basic Math calculations using string variables/objects. It shows the Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division based operators. The main purpose I guess is the best way to perform Math operations on Strings within a somewhat safer way. It basically uses the Val Function that could examine a string and in the event the string can be a number or should the string starts using a number then it's going to convert a object/string to your double or possibly a Char into a integer type. IF the string contains no number or doesnt begin that has a number then it can simply return a 0 that may keep you from throwing a improper casting error message and/or crashing. A VB 6.0 version may be placed up soon.
February 17th 08 - A small example created using Visual may be added that shows how you can use delegates and callbacks to build and employ a higher resolution windows based API Event Timer. This example uses the timeSetEvent/timeKillEvent APIs that helps much higher resolutions as opposed to original SetTimer/KillTimer APIs at about 1 milli seconds in comparison with 15-16ms. This timer is really a part in the multi-media library which has most in the multi-media based apis such as the Playsound and mciSendString apis. Anyways, its situated in - Examples page.
February 8th 08 - A new example constructed with Visual 2008 on while using the Managed Windows API Timer on the DotNET Framework was added. The codes within this example is suitable for 2005 however the project will Not load in 2005. The managed timer was incorporated version 2.0 on the framework which VB 2005 is dependant on. This example shows how you can create a timer and also have it call a function of your respective choice whenever the specified interval has elapsed. This timer appears being a managed wrapper throughout the SetTimer/KillTimer APIs in the library that I created a example for any few weeks ago. The resolution is just about 15/16ms. You can try while using Un-Managed multi-media timeSetEvent/timeKillEvent APIs which assists to resolutions as much as 1ms and is particularly based for the library. I do use a example on these multi-media apis but never released it. I may do that down the road though.
February 8th 08 - The example on how you can Clear All Textboxes, Manipulate or Set properties for many conrols on the form is updated. The update has new codes that shows the best way to skip over or bypass controls specified from the code and clear or set the rest from the controls that are Not specified to skip.
January 29th 08 - I added a fresh Control I made using C with stdcall exports so it could be used by Visual Basic under - Controls page. The control will return some various basic cpu info such as model, vendor, stepping, clockspeed, A example on how to change the library constructed with 2002/2003 and works with Visual Basic 2005/2008 may be added to - Examples page.
January 28th 08 - I designed to post this along time ago but forgot too. Microsoft presenting available all from the Visual 2008 Examples that had been included using the RTM Released To Manufacture versions as being a seperate download. There are actually very MANY examples designed for Visual Basic 2008 that covers from Excel, Powerpoint to LINQ, Tablet Based Programming, Server based, and Database programming. While the examples may NOT open with VB 2005, the codes in many on the examples should use Visual Basic 2005 too. Obviously examples like LINQ based source code wont work 2005 since LINQ had not been supported until VS 2008. Anyways, Click this Link when your interested. The download is alittle greater than 9 MB, so if you've got Dial-Up although it awhile.:
January 24th 08 - An example for Visual continues to be added that shows the best way to get the Textbox Controls - current line number in 2002/2003 The VB 2005 and VB 2008 Textbox incorporates a feature with this, but is Not on this example. Might add later, receiving the total amounts of lines inside the textbox, and obtaining the text/characters with the current line position.
January 17th 08 - A new example for Visual Basic 6.0 the code within the example is VB 5.0 compatible may be added that shows how to operate the GetEnvironmentVariable API call function to get into some pre-defined variables and get/retrieve their values. You can see some Environment Variables when you go on the Start then Settings menu and then click on Control Panel. Click for the System icon then the Advanced tab. Click for the button which says Environment Variables that should display a window with pre defined variables in addition to their values.
January 16th 08 - I added Two 2x new Examples for Visual Basic 6.0 Codes must be usable in 5.0. Both examples are in connection with using two with the available system timers/counters. Since I use a few timer related examples for, I figured I would carry out the same for VB Classic. So one of them examples uses the GetTickCount API Function along with the other example uses the timeGetTime API Function along using the timeBeginPeriod and timeEndPeriod API calls. The GetTickCount timer/counter supports about 15 ms resolutions, as the timeGetTime counter/timer supports around 1 millisecond resolutions. Go towards the VB - Examples page under Timing to evaluate out the examples. I might make one or two more Timing related examples with the 5.0/6.0 versions by using a Very High sub-millisecond Resolution performance counter-timerQueryPerformanceCounter and perhaps another over a super high quality timerRDSC.
January 8th 08 - Edit: All on the downloads operate again. IF you find any downloads or links broken please send a straightforward feedback message to me in the Send Feedback page.
January 5th 08 - A example for 2003 2002 at the same time and works with VB 2005, Visual Basic 2008 continues to be added. The example is how to accomplish some basic Form/Application effects using API codes. Some on the animations is really a Left to Right, Right to Left, Top to Bottom, and Bottom to Top directional effects. Some special effects is Blend, Roll, and Slide. You can also specify how slow or slow the issue will take place. At - Examples page.
