Christmas sweater On flu Saturday in New York City, the globe s largest train terminal reached a sudden halt. Over 200 Improv Everywhere Agents froze set up at the similar second for 5 minutes in the Main Concourse of Grand Central Terminal. Over 500, 000 people rush through Grand Central every single day, currently, things delayed just a lttle bit as commuters and tourists alike stopped to remember what was happening around them. Enjoy it first after which go behind the scenes with the mission report and photos. Hidden Audio Actors: Agents Osteri, Rodgers, Sommer, Todd Back in 2006 there was around 200 people shop in slow motion with a Manhattan Home Depot. For part a couple of that mission everyone froze available. As it been found the slow motion was subtle, nevertheless the freezing available was absolutely striking. I wanted to recreate the frozen idea, but now in a more substantial, more open space. Home Depot had many aisles and multiple floors and that means you could never see greater handful of frozen people for a time. At Grand Central s enormous Main Concourse, we might be able to determine everyone simultaneously. We met in nearby Bryant Park and synchronized our watches. We would freeze at exactly 2:30 PM. A nice blend of people of nearly every age and races came, so we will look like any random sample of New Yorkers before we froze. Another thing we learned in the Home Depot mission is that it s really challenging convey this idea through photographs. Everyone is frozen available in a picture. Our chief photographer Chad Nicholson considered his exposure a little to help compensate. Those not frozen are blurry. We filmed this mission discreetly from your upper balcony with a roaming agent on to the floor with a camera herniated of a cart of luggage. At one time a guy driving some sort of maintenance cart entered the concourse and was stopped in their tracks by our frozen agents. Fortunately there have been just a matter of seconds left from the mission. We unfroze before he got too frustrated. We got great reactions on the folks who encountered us. Strangers started conversing with each other, seeking to figure out the fact that was going on. With wireless microphones hidden within our shirts, some agents and I struck up conversations with normal folks. I convinced one guy to get a mobile phone from a frozen woman s hand. He made it happen, laughing uncontrollably as they gently put it back in their own hand. My favorite reaction was coming from a female cop who witnessed everything from behind her NYPD recruitment booth: Cop: I have little idea! That will be the craziest shit I ve experienced in my life, AND I M A COP! Cop: You wanna sign nearly be within the NYPD? It was fun to find out all the different choices people designed for their frozen moment. I didn t give any instructions before hand. I just told everyone to become doing something realistic but not jokey. One guy dropped a whole briefcase brimming with papers your second before he froze, leaving his papers scattered before him for 5 minutes. Many froze midway through eating or drinking. A few froze while starting off a jacket. One couple froze kissing. I ve come up with some animations of any few of the most popular moments. It s fun to view each one through several times, concentrating on different parts of the style. You can try to determine how many people in each image are in reality frozen. Agent Nicholson has not been shooting from your tripod, and much more some of these the picture shifts slightly from frame to frame. I ve spaced them out and that means you can consentrate on one at the time. Notice the agent spilling the papers left center, plus the agent taking his jacket off right center this animation may well not work in all browsers, get Firefox. These agents froze having a photo, full of bunny ears I is only able to spot four agents on this photo: two black males just on top of the truck, the girl with the red scarf for the left, plus the white male in the bottom with glasses. Everyone else moves. If you participated, leave your agent report inside the comments. That was great! Probably the best made video connected with an event at the same time. Really done well everybody! Note to self: Move to New York as a part of awesome IE stunts. There was one rather exasperated luggage-buggy driver who have to have honked at me 30 times as I stood frozen, examining my ticket to Yonkers. Wow. Just wow. Seriously. I wish I could ve had the experience for that one hopefully by these times next year, though, I ll be back inside the game.: Bravo! This one was fantastic. I love how everyone applauded whenever you started going again.:D To the pair who froze mid-kiss BRAVO. I love my girl to odds and ends, but I don t know if we will ve had time to hold a kiss without moving, needless to say for 5 minutes. Fantastic job, guys. I wish I had been a part of this one. Awesome! i wish i'd been in New York on the time, i might ve loved to contribute. beautiful, and strangely moving This is actually cool! I hope you expect to do something similar to this again I d like to be involved. Brilliant remember. Wish I could have participated! harriet just showed this in my opinion, can t believe I really achieved it!!!!!!! Such a fantastic stunt. I like how Agent Todd went around engaging the target audience. Looks like that it was a lots of fun. BOOOOO to IE to not get picked up through the pilot. w00t to get this online:- Please go to Los Angeles! I was wondering whenever you d finally put this blog up! The video ends with my girlfriend and I unfreezing. Easily my most enjoyable and best mission yet! This I think equals the grade of the mission, The Moebius. Everyone did their jobs so well, I couldn t believe many of them were able to support their positions for 5 minutes. None with their positions were unnatural, which made the mission better yet. Oh, I wish I lived in New York. When I entered the terminal, I immediately noticed two groups of escalators, the one which was working, and one which sat motionless and closed off. I walked the broken stairs outside of sight and waited for some minutes. Then I walked down and, in the specified time, I froze inside middle from the steps. From the terminal, I wagered it would resemble even 2 of the escalators had frozen constantly in place, even though the two beside them dutifully continued taking visitors to and from your street. I thought it absolutely was pretty clever. I also thought there is a good chance not a soul would notice. Still, I thought, do you know the odds how the side with all the escalators won t appear inside background that is at least one or two shots? Answer: Better than you d think! This became fun, I had an incredible time when me and my buddy did this- I had her pose for the photo, and I was several feet away taking it if the freezing started- therefore it seemed to passers by that there we were only still for having a picture- until it lasted longer than a short time. Most went around us after waiting anyway, which had been cute. Another Hit. LOL. that s just awesome. Oh damn, I remember this. My spine got so sore afterwards because throughout the first freeze. I was bending down, but it had been so awesome. Can t wait to view what s next. This was a thrilling time. My last mission before college. And I actually got bought it for. This was my first Mission so I figured I had to produce a good impression I was the guy who dropped the papers all around us!!! It was hilarious hearing the many comments available, and also the few agents who got into try and assist me pick them up made it better yet. I think your second freeze was a lot better after we freaked people out by moving for 30 secs! Had an excellent time, and require I could indulge in more, but I now have a home in Good Luck I LOVE how every mission you receive the, This should be some sort of protest reaction from people. Did this stunt depart on the NYC agents subscriber list? When was it performed? On the other to last picture, I found five agents. There is one inside the bottom left corner wearing a black and yellow coat. My last mission before moving to DC. And we got paid to anxiety the tourists! My newfound partner and I had one dude surface and stick his camera right inside our faces and snap a picture and he was like They didn t even BLINK! and then on the end, women asked us what we had arrived doing therefore we both said Trying to get to Connecticut. What are YOU doing? So much fun! This is really weird I just wish I knew whatever they were doing were a number of comments from passersby. It was actually nice when everyone applauded if we broke from your first freeze. It was like everyone in Grand Central was saying to us, Job congratulations. wow that had been great, hope u guys have more videos and another missions on the agenda shortly This was a real fun one to be a part of. I was within the stairway coming down on the main floor as well as the view of case was spectacular!! I wish there had been more video obtained from above. Even more interesting was the abrupt decrease and then increase within the volume inside terminal. Amazing. I heard lots of great comments like uh oh, somethings taking place, plus in reference to another agent who had tripped and fallen prior to the freeze: somethings wrong along with her. I also were forced to remain frozen while a homeless person worked the group and came over for me staring strait into my face repeatedly seeking money. Whew! Oh, how badly I wish I lived in New York! I ve read through the many missions, and I think it is one of my top picks. You all are awesome! How does everyone know gets hotter s been exactly 5 minutes, when you re frozen and will t research your watch? Kisser 1 I m 2 and I just found this and so are alternately laughing and blushing, I think. Only real problem was watching a clock/watch from the process. To individuals who asked the way we knew when the 5 minutes were up: it worked similar to the Home Depot mission. You attempted to freeze within a way enabling you to glance your watch, but when not you'll keep an eye those close to you who were frozen and move after they move. Next time, after the 5 minutes up, move for a few minutes and freeze again for 1-2 minutes to perform the double freak around the public. This video really was great using the music and everything. I think happen to be on to something! haha It was incredible the way they could all stand frozen for 5 minutes. The last animation is my personal favorite. Did this mission go out for the NYC e-mail list? If so I didn t experience an e-mail! When will the girls only mission transpire?! Whoa crazy! That s me within the last picture together with the glasses and altoids! It was much fun Beautiful and inspirational. I m impressed that folks held still for such a long time. Some of the positions need to have been tough. So glad for that applause with the end. That was awesome. I wish I could ve done that. That s awesome, Charlie your capability to observe the weirdness of the situation apparently qualifies one to become a cop. Excellent. The world needs much more of this. Brilliant! Just f-ing brilliant! Wish I could happen to be there to determine it. Job congratulations. That would have been a well produced video. I can completely find out how you could market this to be a recurring show for TV or for that web in the event you d rather maintain full management of it. You ve got an excellent story arc setup. Conception, Planning, Meet-up, Execution, Reaction Hey, you may t fool me, you overdubbed footage through the No Pants Subway ride for your bullhorn scene on the opening. Then you overdubbed the voice in the maintanance guy on the some other Altogether though, it created a nice video! Well done. Thanks for making life in NYC the action that it can be. Brilliant!!! Is the weirdest thing ever! I would have loved to get there to find out it! I am loving the recent rash of individuals as entertainment stunts from the past number of years, on the ZombieWalks towards the Thriller dance troupes. And now this such as a fairy tale moment. Kudos to whomever came up using the idea, as well as the participants who did the perfect job. Wish I d been there to determine it live. the thought, the execution, along with the video coming at a cameraman and editor just outstanding! wish I knew concerning this, would have already been through it very done well!! so amusing, long enough to get noticed yet short enough to not inconvenience anyone much that maintenance guy would have been a good sport after all Totally awesome, I was completely mesmerised by this. Performed against Grand Central s stunning backdrop, this looks to a outsider like Christo without his orange gates or his budget a New York experience that nearly defies description. Good job and great video! It looks like it had been memorable and fun for both agents and spectators. I was cracking up when I saw this. The freeze poses were creative and realistic; good job for carrying the mission seriously. I love the guy who dropped his papers! What an attractive thing, I wish I d been through it to enjoy it. Without irony, I believe this IE mission was true art. You guys are fking brilliant! THAT WAS AMAZING! thanks for bringing this into the earth. i'm able to t wait to complete this in kolkata india!!!! damn that funny, i m coming the next time! there better be a the next occasion. In the 70s, these folks were Happenings, and later on, Performance Art. Now, apparently, they re Improvs! I think they re great; it could possibly t be not a good thing to amaze people and invoke wonder as proven through the spontaneous applause from onlookers. Glad to determine the form isn t dead. Carry on! That was one among the coolest things I have seen. I just watched film and I wasn t there, but which was super clever. Well done! That is FANTASTIC. The concept themselves is great enough, though the fact which the whole great deal of you made it possible to pull it off so well is definitely amazing. And I love the responses from passers-by. Brilliant amount of social vandalism. Friends and I accustomed to attempt such a thing at Disneyland, where we'd show up in striped shirts and straw hats, climb onto a street corner in Main Street, where a lot of us played kazoos and harmonicas, while other people danced within a spastic fashion within the street. After ten minutes there we were asked to leave. Grand Central Station. Bravo! This is easily the most brilliant idea I ve seen. I ve been wanting to accomplish things like this for a long time. I wish I lived in NY so I could participate in. Improv Everywhere, you are making life wonderful. Shine on, you crazy diamonds! That really was fantastic. Makes me proud as a human. I think that is totally stupid and pointless but thats just my. I didn t purchase an email! Damn! I would have loved as a part with this! Great mission It s form of coincidental which the number for the guy s cart is 207, similar to the number of agents. great job guys, maybe I ll do similar to that t think I could stop from laughing though Genius! I adore it very creative! Was that Josh Frick on the end saying, which was the weirdest thing I ve experienced cuz it sure as fuck looks like him, despite the fact that he lives in Germantown, MD Best yet! Wish I could have already been through it! Things in this way are the reason why you guys happen to be on my bookmarks toolbar for four years keep within the amazing and inspiring work. Awesome guys, and you weren t in a postal facility, you were in a train terminal. Grand Central Station is really a postal sorting facility, Grand Central Terminal is where all of the trains are. Thats just awesome. More power to you! Nice job. Super cool. Keep within the amazing work. I love these matters! Makes me wish I could move across the nation. Well, maybe just find the wherewithal to fly in the market to New York for just a stunt sometime I think I ll register for your RSS feed now, instead of relying on other blogs to create about this stuff.: Wow! That can be so awesome! People have to have totally spun out. I would love to find out this type of thing through australia. I like this type of stuff a whole lot. Hopefully the following will be in the airport better employ a bail fund build first though. This is brilliant. I always forget about everyone then locate stunt you ve done every few months or so. Whatever you do, continue the good work! Fabulous! Absolutely Fabulous! It is this fact kind of thing and thinking! making New York- NEW YORK!! Jesse Califano I love the worker together with the car from the video. He is attempting to explain what s happening and, just when he asks for help, BAM! it s over. Great event, good presentation. LEGEN loose time waiting for it, I hope your not lactose intolerant coz the following part is DARY!!! that's awesome! many thX Improv Everywhere is awesome. amazing video. you must do more like act on an impro. i.e the place that the actors have there brief even so the public have no clue. happened in a very restaurant once, a team of actors sat downa nd ate there meal with this they were very nice to all of the surrounding tables. they reached pay and made a big scene about the way they didn t can pay for. the customers we were holding nice to everyone chepped in and so they got there meal taken care of. would are actually a joy to observe. I know I ve already posted, but congrats for the YouTube feature!!! that s awesome! how did i not hear concerning this?! when s your next mission!? Epic win. Good job. Nice FEATURED status on YouTube! Hey, when you ever do this sort of thing in Los Angeles, I d prefer to know! I want to participate in! Awesome. One suggestion: If you do another freezing mission at any point on time, build a hidden camera somewhere 100 % view using a long exposure time then you certainly ll provide an awesome photo with all from the frozen people enclosed by blurs of onlookers. Though I suppose some in the onlookers froze good enough in shock to get captured in said photo. two questions though, for all in the agents do you know when you start, and has now been 5 minutes? you obviously didnt stare in your watch the many time. My first Improv Everywhere mission and I am glad as a part of it! A similar thing was over in Giuseppe Tornatore s Stanno Tutti Bene 1990 movie. The old grandfather calls his son from your train station, and if the automatic machine answers, everyone inside the station, aside from himself, freeze in position. I love the bit, but I really don t care for your video on that one. The fast editing makes a very sound bite quality and I d have preferred to view longer elements of raw footage. But that s only 1 opinion so that as I said, the bit was awesome. Awesome would wish to try it in Tokyo! cool. would like to discover the full 5 min. Ir a been said before but brilliant ! I know I could certainly be a good participant but inside summer, please. it is one with the most ingenious some tips i have experienced. would loved to are actually a pert on the freeze fantastic. I really enjoyed watching the recording! What creativity! Bravo!!! Awesomely creative prank! Wish I could ve seen it live. Christopher Reeve running thru New York in a very Superman costume can't stop or distract New Yorkers after only a NY minute- but alas, what has much more power than Superman? Once again, performance art rules the morning! This mission was pure magic and absolutely stunning. I can t stop watching it or perhaps the other missions, spent 8 hours yesterday checking them out and have absolutely shown at the least 50 people. Everyone watches jaws dropped, smiling and eyes bright. It must feel amazing to get that type of wonder and joy to countless. Signed up and ready for your first LA mission! I was interviewed with this, it is possible to actually hear my voice within the video haha. Probably the weirdest thing I ve ever experienced but me and my pals will never forget it. A-mazing. Laughed loudly. I discovered this blog when evaluating blogs on improv as I am venturing for the reason that wonderful art. I just watched this video and it also freaking awsome. I am a New Yorker by heart and I make an effort to visit as frequently as I can. I will be coming sometime in June and I would wish to participate in certainly one of your missions. This type of thing allows the earth to be percieved in the entirely new context! Take one among the busiest places from the make time stand still! You should always i believe reaction through the public, because nobody expects the unexpected! Absolutly inspirational!! Keep in the good work agents!!! What a terrific way to expand consciousness and show folks that they can think outside of these logical mind. As the improve group knows much too well there exists POWER IN NUMBERS! I found your blog 6-8 hours ago and I m already adicted. This is basically great. Should you have any agents in Germany or perhaps a mission thereabouts, get in touch, please! which was just amazing!!! i wish a could be a a part of something that way really amazing 8 So fantastic! And beautiful. I ve been thinking about starting up a chapter of IE within Vancouver, and haven t had the whole push yet to plod through with it but it is most definitely inspired me. Any plans for just a repeat with this year or something similar? this was just about the most intriguing thing i have seen. great concept. well executed and damn entertaining to observe. just wow! wow beautiful act, creative weird and smart, keep rocking. And maybe you are able to export this idea to many different place in the globe at the identical time. Wow which was beautiful! One from the more creative things I ve seen all of us just stop wonder I imagine there were over a few people who have been seriously unnerved with that, it mat be a couple who thought it had been a manifestation of The Rapture. How I would LOVE to participate in in something such as this. You and also your girlfriend were the best freeze-the beauty in which you flowed back in motion was GENIUS. Bravo to you both! I swear that's the BEST stunt ever. And the coverage of this blog was magnificent! The camera about the upper floor really gave an incredible vantage from the scene, and brilliant roving agent work through the mic ed agent. I just sent this to everyone I treasure, it honest to god made my day! Hope you have something good planned in August, so I can perhaps begin for one on my small visit. I would be honored! YEE!! THANKS for giving me a killer laugh today! Brilliant, just brilliant unbelievable, mind-blowing, and fabulous. and yes it inspired me to adopt a photograph tonight within this very building. thank you with the Brilliant work! That would be eerie to discover and fun to take part in. Bravo and Encore! Frozen Grand Central completely blew me away! I absolutely LOVED it! You guys not merely made a terrific video, with incredible acting but we also considered it some beautiful Art! FANTASTICOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! I WISH TO WAS THERe!!! Cool idea; although, Shinjuku station is the globe s busiest and second largest. The largest is Nagoya. Too bad it is possible to t carry out the same in the globe s busiest intersection, Shibuya, in Tokyo shown in Lost in Translation and Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift. Why not recruit folks that do Tai Chi? When I was at Japan, I stood and watched practitioners for 20 minutes. I m contemplating taking it myself. It is beautiful, graceful, stress-relieving, and promotes balance and muscle control. I just wanna say good work about the Grand Central Station. I just think it s amazing the way a busy place like Grand Central Station where everyone can be so impersonal and just in the hurry to begin their lives chose to stop and interact and connect web-sites in order to understand what s happening. You guys truly define what public art is! I love how away from nowhere Rich Sommer of Mad Men and The Devil Wears Prada /name/nm1360860shows up beyond nowhere looking utterly confused and in some cases gets some sound bites. Word spreads everywhere, doesn t it? Pretty cool. One within your best! Well done to all or any who was involved. Freezing to get a minute or two in theatre class is difficult, but FIVE WHOLE MINUTES? Brilliant poses. This am entertaining and fantastic. Each within your Agents did an exceptional job at freezing. This were required to take some serious determination! Kudos to any or all of you for any wonderfully considered play! Not really relevant to the big event itself, but I hated the musical choice along with the whole style from the video. As a means of documenting the presentation from an insider s point of view that it was fine, however it in no way captured the impact for the listeners. The music said look into this, these people are gonna freak, it s usually so cool! if it might are already better to underscore the surreality of case, the bizarre otherworldliness that this witnesses clearly experienced. I found myself envying them, when they received the project s intended impact. I certainly didn t. hope somebody had something playing a CD skipping the complete time. ; can be so curious the best way to stop motion within this civilization times annoys and disrupts the traditional behaved hurry within the cities, is a lot more supernatual to stop to get a while than be running and rushing:P good idea WOW! Amazing both for which you did and also that you just didn t have security agents in the major funk throughout you asap! That is really cool . I would appreciate seeing a greater portion of these, strangely enough it ws very entertaining It s great, really lovely to discover you shake things up so innocently. We ve been doing that for most 5 years in UK, with mobile clubbing and mob events however it s such a terrific initiative it ought to be everywhere ;. Gotta show it to my children. They ll like it too. What a fantastic performance piece. Wonder when we could do somthing like that with the mall in your small Ontario town? fucking brilliant! this brought us to tears. thanks a lot all! xoxoxoxoxooxo As an early New Yorker, I utilized to come through Grand Central the many time. I certainly I wish I was there on that day! Fabulous Loved it!! When will you be coming to San Diego? How do I join you? You are brilliant. Oh, which was insane! Guys, you happen to be really cool! I got high from watching this. I am thrilled that everyone exist and create this sort of wackiness. Our world needs ittttttt. Lookin toward future missions and possibly joining! Thanks to every one those involved. Lotsa luck!! the spilled briefcase brilliant! That was only so, awsome! would wish to be a part of the next one thanks to the feeling the link isn t working, please correct it, i must join within IT!! I love this. Peaceful, beautiful, exciting, funny, democratic and touching. Thank you. Really GREAT. That would be a crazy idea and I wished I have been among the frozen people:- I wish I would have known of which an idea attending school. We could have really had awesome. Wow how brilliant, innovative, fun, kooky, and real. Great job! hallo there! just found out about your project with a friend, also it s funny, i participated inside the same sort of project before through the conflux festival. it s really amazing because all of you have achieved a more substantial scale than the the one that we did, along with the results are beautiful and compelling. it s nice to view where ideas could go! possess a look, if you will get a chance, on the PAUSE project that was component of conflux 06. This is awesome. You re so creative and original: it s like Land Art. I were built with a similar experience pursuing the death from the alleged Princess, Diana. I emerged from your toilet inside local mall and everyone was standing still, looking on the floor. I wandered through them with the invasion on the bodysnatchers and eventually produced bolt for my car. I had little idea this would have been a silent minute with the dont need a seatbelt princess. Absolutely superb! I too applauded when it had been all too soon over. This is creative modern art at its finest. Look to more. La vache!!!
