I purchased this stick for usage with Falcon 4/BMS F16 flight simulator. I already owned a x52 Pro, which itself is often a very nice stick, but wanted something on the higher end from the market. Today I noticed one with the buttons around the throttle eradicated if I had the throttle at max. So, I flip it over and open the device.
The quality control at Saitek is awful, I are unsure if its the post Mad Catz buyout or perhaps a bad month on the factory or what, but it is heinous quality. Stay away from this X-55. If strangely wasnt so cheap feeling, didnt have a lot of plastic-on-plastic parts that didnt fit quite perfectly together and didnt have low-quality wires snaking through it this could certainly be a good stick. I just like the feel, the buttons, the action. None of this really is good whatsoever if the one thing breaks.

I have owned an X52 Pro for seven years, and also have been pleased with it. When I first reached it however, I were required to return it, because three on the buttons, for example the trigger, werent working.
For the last a few months Ive been eagerly following development from the X-55, hoping to get a very good replacing my old stick. It took a little while to finally arrive, however, if it did, I was excited, to put it mildly.
Being a helicopter nerd DCS, Dreamfoil X-plane 10 etc., the substitute for swap the springs was something I found very appealing while using X-55. I immediately exchanged the spring with the weakest one, and plugged inside joystick. After a brief install from the drivers and software, I set to configuring it, testing it to be certain every button and axis were working correctly.
Now, after I pitched the joystick, I noticed something was wrong. After having pitched it, the washer, where the spring rests, didnt turn back down spring should force it back off.

I removed the handle and spring, and took a closer check out the washer. In order to push it backpedal with my fingers, I actually were forced to put some weight with it. Upon closer inspection, I found there would be a healthy dose of lubrication, and also no plastic edges or similar obstructions to hinder the washers travel. In other words, the washer itself is manufactured slightly off spec, turning it into too snug and tight.
I tried one other springs, simply the biggest one was efficient at pushing the washer back off. Ill explain to you this: the strongest spring coupled with a Very snug washer makes to have an impossibly tight and jerky stick.

There are a handful of serious QA difficulties with this product. Few people on any forums, anywhere, report having no issues while using joystick mechanism snagging and causing not simply friction but an inconsistent and snaggy feel for the stick. Some silicon grease generated for plastics helped some, even so the issue will not be a deficiency of lubrication but bad tolerances between your parts. Perhaps with luck, along with an RMA or two, one can get a stick that feels smooth and accurate. However, the utterly inferior switches and buttons, in addition to your stick problems, is often a deal breaker personally at this cost. The buttons could hardly feel any cheaper, and I am not nit picking here. They feel like should they be going to become break after some time, they have an incredibly bad feel to your click all buttons. Some buttons Im even afraid to use as they are like they are planning to break with little use, the slider which is very a 2 position switch is most guilty with this. The buttons feel too toy-grade and Id be very impressed if they stood around any medium to durable use. I wouldnt recommend buying this HOTAS, at least for now, unless your expectations are absurdly low and you're feeling 200 is proper for something feels like a toy. I went along with fairly realistic expectations. I wouldn't expect the buttons being super premium quality, but I did expect these phones not seem like they were likely to break at any time. I dont mind the plastic construction, or any from the build material choices. However, the particular feel with the stick and buttons failed to remotely meet some of my expectations. I am hoping Saitek will focus on this overwhelming volume of negative feedback and take action to fix the X55, even if it means an expense increase. Read more
I purchased the x55 Rhino from and recieved it about 2 weeks ago and still have been playing from it a bit everyday. I felt compelled to create a review on here because Ive had an excellent experience with my rhino, and I didnt have any from the problems mentioned inside negative reviews here around the site.
It came fresh in box needlessly to say. After pulling against each other and plugging it in, I opened the instructions which tell you to definitely go to saiteks website and download the drivers and software it offers the link. Getting this setup was all simple and once that it was done I tested the many buttons etc. Everything is very rewarding on mine plus the joystick was smooth etc. I didnt have any on the friction problems some people have mentioned.
Ive been playing Arma 3, War thunder, diaspiora, several other games along with the joystick works well. It is completely new so there are now not built in profiles for each of the popular games yet. Which means I was required to bind most with the buttons myself for every game instead than be setup which has a default. Im sure that will change soon though.
The software had not been super intuitive, but after watching one youtube tutorial video of how to program the x55, I was able to perform alot of really awesome custom keybinds to make roteries etc from the various games Ive loaded up. Once you understand how to do it then a software is incredibly powerful and you can find just about whatever you decide to need done.
My only complaint is right out on the box there isnt an off switch something like that someone around the peripherals. This obviously isnt a lrage benefit, but it can be slightly annoying because sometimes when I load up in to a game that will not need a HOTAS, it registers anyway and starts controlling my cursor.
