5.0 from 5 stars A Quicken for Windows Competitor for Mac
By S. L. Patterson on December 15, 2010
I gone to live in Mac over six in the past and have were required to maintain a Boot Camp partition and multiple versions of Windows all of this time since the Quicken for Mac products couldn't even compare to the versions of Quicken for Windows I had used since 1994.
I have purchased and uninstalled at the least 4 versions of Quicken for Mac for example the latest Mint-inspired Quicken Essentials for Mac as a result of poor consumer experience and truncated feature set cant track my 401k - - seriously?. I have also tried a slew of Mac financial loans such as Cashculator, Jumsoft Money, MoneyDance, MoneyWell and Cha-Ching. None of them came in close proximity to Quicken for Windows and into your trashcan they went.
I figured I was stuck maintaining a Windows partition and paying Intuit another 69-89 for that annual Quicken update which strangely usually not add many useful latest features, however, many years got prettier because I always wanted the present release, in the event.
Then I came across iBank 4 I had previously tried and uninstalled iBank 3 and figured I would perform another shot whats that specification of insanity, again?.
I did a QIF export of my Quicken accounts and imported it into iBank 4 and it also populated the information, transactions, categories and just about everything I needed I was required to reset the online access, but that's anticipated - - including my 401k and IRA accounts. I can now select the download button and literally within just a few seconds every single account - - cards, bank, savings, lending institution, investments - - are updated capable to import within their correct accounts using a single click Quicken takes much, for a long time and errors out frequently.
The most significant thing in my opinion was seeing my checkbook register and understanding that I know the amount of is in there for that next 1 month I schedule bills 30 days in advance. Something that only Quicken for Windows seems to get mastered previous to my knowledge about iBank 4.
I can readily add a recurring bill simply by right-clicking into it in my bank register and selecting Make scheduled transaction from selection. It adds it to your running list in sequential order and future bills is usually scheduled I outlay cash online via my bank website by way of a single click to post for the register.
I manipulate this successfully including a great single-click backup ability - - even going to my Dropbox are the reason for almost two weeks and possess not felt the desire to launch Quicken for Windows for the reason that entire some time and I am a day-to-day updater/checker.
I think I finally have realized a winner from the Mac financial software sweepstakes.
1.0 from 5 stars Wish could say something nice to say of it
By Dying4MacSoftware on December 4, 2010
After 2 decades on a PC, couldnt be happier to be a Mac user to the last 36 months. With Macs and Mac software, no aggravation, no frustration, and all things are beautiful, really visually pleasing.
Then, theres iBank. Its aggravating, frustrating, and sub-par regarding looks and consumer experience.
However, after 36 months of searching and searching, 36 months of using trial or paid versions of just about every Mac home financial software around, I need to say it will be the best of an exceptionally bad lot.
Its not what iBank does or doesnt do this is the problem; its the way it does it. I could list 30 things which, each of them by itself, isn't a real problem. The problem would be the combination of all of the little things which add up to a comprehensive experience of aggravation and frustration.
Example: Its very, very slow to reply. Im on my small 2nd click even so the 1st one hasnt generated anything yet. Click on, say, Checking Account, and have absolutely to wait a period of time for that program to modify to that account. Youd naturally imagine that you could proceed and start clicking the icon to start adding a transaction because once you clicked the account name, something should happen, right? Instead, you have to have to wait and await that account to open up. The additional clicks from trying to progress at what must be a normal pace when actually iBank hasnt trapped to your 1st click yet causes this system to crash. Crashing is a thing iBank does wonderfully, and frequently.
Example: Click after click after click to accomplish one little thing. Lets do Apple stock this session. How many shares of Apple stock do I now take over? Click using a Portfolio Report youve created. How well has my investment because stock done after some time? Click upon an Investment Summary report that youve created. Lets give a dividend reinvestment for Apple stock. Click on that account to get in the transaction. 3 clicks and also a total of 5 minutes to obtain info you wish and make 1 transaction because nothing is inside the same place. cannot view everything about your Apple stock during one screen because you easily can in other such programs.
Another example: entering a transaction in, say, Checking Account and would like to assign the price to a category, but dont recall exactly how the category was named. Was that the sub sounding Misc or Other Expense category? Or, could it be a sub class of Food that Im after? Cant click inside Category box to determine all available categories and scroll to get the one needed. Must know what the category name is, then type in the 1st letter for everything to appear inside Category drop down box. Enter M for Misc as well as the Misc category appears and its sub categories along with all the other categories starting with M. Nope, not there. Lets try F for Food. Nope, not one of them either. Well, lets go on the Category list to see for sure which category I need. Ooops, must click Cancel so that you can leave this Checking Account screen, therefore loose the thing that was started. Click on Categories. Find the category needed. Oh, OK, thats what its called. Now, to Checking Account and commence the transaction once again. transaction was I wanting to add? This one or that you?
None of the wasted some time to aggravation could well be necessary if you may simply be able to determine all available categories from the inside of the category drop down box. Such an easy thing. Other programs are set up by doing this. Not iBank.
Another example: include with your 2010 monthly budget expenses, say, Christmas. Only need to plan for it for maybe eight weeks - Nov Dec. Except, iBank will never allow you to do this. Can only budget the best way iBank programmers would love you to budget, that's monthly, quarterly, or yearly. They won't allow you to budget a line item for almost any other period including 2 months. So, its impossible to setup within your 2010 Budget a line item with the Christmas category and budget X in Nov and X in Dec.
Another example: Its now Dec 4. Want to view how you did using your budgeting for Nov? Cant, you silly goose. iBank programmers dont want you to find out how you did in almost any previous month in terms of your budgeting v. actual. They won't allow you to change dates to look at previous periods. Can view only the latest months budgeting v. actual.
Another example: when splitting a transaction and wish to perform a little math to look for the split amounts, could do with the Macs calculator mindful about isnt one in the software like there may be with other such software. So, you should click around the calculator icon in iBank which opens the Macs calculator, then go through the calculator to decide on it, then do your figuring, then click back on iBank to choose it, then double click within the area you want to go into the amount you simply calculated. Click click click click, thats all you could do in iBank is click. Other financial programs employ a built-in calculator right where you need to complete the figuring which eliminates the requirement of all those additional clicks.
iBank just about does what exactly you need it to try and do. But, it unnecessarily adds so much a serious amounts of aggravation to your process that dealing along with your money becomes a lot more of a chore pc has for being. And, it's just not nice to consider nor well-laid from top of their. Yet, its still the top Mac home money software on the market. Youd think right now someone available would have gotten this right.
I gone after Mac over six a long time ago and have were required to maintain a Boot Camp partition and multiple versions of Windows pretty much everything time considering that the Quicken for Mac products could hardly even compare to the versions of Quicken for Windows I had used since 1994.
I have purchased and uninstalled at the least 4 versions of Quicken for Mac such as latest Mint-inspired Quicken Essentials for Mac with the poor buyer and truncated feature set cant track my 401k - - seriously?. I have also tried a slew of Mac financial loans such as Cashculator, Jumsoft Money, MoneyDance, MoneyWell and Cha-Ching. None of them came all-around Quicken for Windows and in to the trashcan they went.
I figured I was stuck maintaining a Windows partition and paying Intuit another 69-89 to the annual Quicken update which strangely generally seems to not add many useful extra features, however, some years got prettier because I always wanted the existing release, in the event that.
Then I came across iBank 4 I had previously tried and uninstalled iBank 3 and figured I would provide another shot whats that concise explaination insanity, again?.
I did a QIF export of my Quicken accounts and imported it into iBank 4 and it also populated the info, transactions, categories and food items . I needed I needed to reset within the online access, but that had been anticipated - - including my 401k and IRA accounts. I can now select the download button and literally within 10-seconds every single account - - plastic cards, bank, savings, lending institution, investments - - are updated capable to import inside their correct accounts that has a single click Quicken takes much, for a long time and errors out frequently.
The most essential thing to me was seeing my checkbook register and if you know I know the amount of is in there with the next thirty days I schedule bills monthly in advance. Something that only Quicken for Windows seems to get mastered previous to my knowledge about iBank 4.

I think I finally discovered a winner from the Mac financial software sweepstakes.

Like a good many others, Im a longtime Quicken for Mac user who was simply greatly disappointed while using release trapped on tape of Quicken Essentials for Mac. For a long set of its deficiencies, start to see the reviews - the other star rating - of Quicken Essentials for Mac here on Amazon - basically its Accounting Lite instead of a real program for adults with complicated finances.
I had considered prior versions of IBank but have been put off by its insufficient comprehensive reporting features. This past weekend I was delighted to find out IBank 4 presenting customize-able reporting. You can directory only one payee or category, or every combination of accounts.
Although, in this way I wont need reports typically - you'll be able to search by Payee, Category, or practically any keyword inside main Document window for every account, then see all of your transactions. EDIT: I had said inside first draft in this review that you just cant try to find keywords across accounts however now I stumbled upon the remedy: If you put your active accounts to a Group mine is named 2011 Credit Cards, then enter a keyword because Group window view - each of the transactions in every of that Groups accounts containing the keyword will pop right up in the list. I had also thought you couldnt search using numbers but that's also incorrect - I had just been going about it the wrong manner. You absolutely can seek out numbers as part of your accounts, either individually or by group, which can be incredibly helpful in the event you reconcile manually , as I transactions containing amounts like 12.87 or 5.34 are instantly available once entered with a search windows. These search windows also make finding Payees and whatever youve written inside blissfully-not-truncated Notes field easy. The search is instant, as opposed for the slow, clunky, single-transaction view supplied by Quicken 2007.
There are a handful of features in IBank 4 which make me nearly weep with relief after my struggles with Quicken 2007. Firstly, you are able to CUT AND PASTE TRANSACTIONS!!!! Its so wonderful!! How many times have I spent hours looking to remove mistakenly-downloaded transactions in one of my accounts in Quicken. If you accidentally import or perhaps your bank accidentally downloads transactions in to the wrong account or re-downloads transactions, you could potentially have a huge selection of bad transactions that may take you literally hours to clear out in Quicken 2007. Quicken 2007 wont assist you to select many transaction for deletion - ever; contains are you sure type prompts you cant shut off any time you seek to delete a transaction; and features no deletion-related keyboard shortcuts. It makes a tedious task, hitting an are you sure you would like to delete this: OK button dozens, or hundreds, of times to take out error-filled transactions. Of course, you could potentially always restore your Quicken file at a backup you have made before the bad data was entered, but youd also lose some other good changes you experienced made since that backup was made.
Quicken can also only enable the user to go transactions one-at-a-time between, without multiple transaction selection or keyboard shortcuts allowed. In IBank 4 deleting and moving multiple transactions takes literally seconds. Actually, its very easy one worries about mistakenly altering something. Fortunately, the inclusion associated with an UNDO last action as well as REDO option inside Edit menu prevents disaster. You can also export your transactions to QIF or TXF format, or back them up any time you like. Additionally, you'll be able to set up IBank 4 to back your transactions when you quit this program. This means restoring from backup is surely an option here too.
Another vastly improved area over Quicken may be the use of Categories in IBank 4. Its fundamentally the same methodology - you utilize different Categories Grocery, Restaurants, Books, since you employ a lot more flexibility. When I migrated to IBank 4 I was capable to reassign transactions effortlessly - IBank 4 enables you to reassign current transactions to your new category should you decide to delete one of many old ones. Also, its easier not to ever mistakenly re-create similarly named categories mine will always be Grocery and Groceries with IBanks easy pull-down window which autopopulates if you start typing. IBanks IPhone client IBank Mobile likewise helps create uniform Payees and Categories - no longer variations with a business name and street address for that same location, since you have the same Categories and Payees for both versions of IBank. My better, more accurate reports will certainly come in handy at tax time.
IBank Mobile is usually a piece of cake likewise. Your data syncs with a single click - in seconds and error free, making a mirror copy within your desktop software. This feature alone, which allowed me to ditch the different other IPhone apps I had cobbled together to make use of with Quicken, may be valued at the cost of admission. Its the end of year, I have 3,000 or so transactions that I exported from Quicken and imported to IBank 4 which had been a smooth, near-totally bug-free process, I might add. IBank Mobile imported them in literally seconds, following simple syncing setup between my IPhone and MacBookPro. Its gonna be SO NICE not to own to utilize IPhone Checkbook app to export each account manually with an email and that is not secure, then re-import yourself to Quicken 2007.
My jurys still mildly out - this system runs so quickly and is really easy to use the reason is making me paranoid whether my transaction info is still there - but nowadays I ought to say, Im completely, utterly thrilled with IBank 4.
Id provide five stars but it really still has slightly bit of functionality left to feature. Id like to view the developers add Class functionality that's basically ways to sort Categories by subcategory. To some extent theres a workaround with this - it is possible to simply add another Category as being a subcategory with the one youre dealing with - and you cant then sort those subcategories independently. I was using the Class capability in Quicken to follow the different sales taxes I pay on various products, but I think for the present time Im going to get to manually split transactions in order to the sales tax. Id such as an easier, automatic way to perform this, but for the time being I dont think thats obtainable in either IBank 4 or Quicken 2007. This is often a big deal for me personally, because I live inside a state with VERY high sales tax and I need to follow it for deduction in my Federal returns. I buy things occasionally from outlets that do not charge sales tax, so I cant just apply % to each and every transaction to have my total; also, my state includes a different sales tax rate for groceries and also other incidentals.
Note: I dont use my software to print checks in order to download transactions from my bank Id really rather reconcile my accounts personally, which implies I can review each transaction more thoroughly. However, I tried importing some transactions to see operate worked, and again - smooth, easy, crash-free.
UPDATE, 11/30/10: Apparently theres a method to integrate IBank 4 with Turbotax, through exporting your transactions in a specific format. To utilize this I assume you should assign Categories to several portions from the tax code, and utilize that to build your export.
Overall Im pleased with this supplement, and Im more happy that it is currently being actively supported. Intuit has sent clear signals it isnt taking Mac users needs seriously, while IGG Software is actively soliciting input from users for more added features for IBank. So far, its been definitely worth the money not must spend a lot hands-on time managing my finances, and correcting the errors Quicken 2007 kept baking into my accounts. Thanks IGG!!
UPDATE, 12/3/10: After having completely migrated my finances and used the product to get a few days, I have additional information. First, the program is staggering using what it does well - the reporting features are fast and comprehensive; I can view the big picture of my finances instantly, that is quite a rare feeling to me. ; Im really pleased with features just like the automatic Scheduled Transactions along with the ability to feature them to ICal.
On the negative effects, to some extent you'll be able to tell this can be a program being put together by independent software programmers and never a gigantic corporate conglomerate like Intuit. Its got a few glitches - I had some trouble developing a Category within the IPhone client therefore far Ive had some hangs requiring me to hard-reset this course.
However - and this is usually a big however - nothing Ive found thus far has triggered any data loss what-so-ever. Ive now tried exporting and importing data from my backups, and Im convinced this isn't something Im going to get to keep within the forefront of my head.
So yes, it isn't quite 100% when it comes to stability, but when it comes to functionality its until now ahead of Quicken 2007 it is just not even funny.
One other feature Id like to discover added will be the ability to find out ones Budget within the IPhone client but you may see banking account totals in real time if youve synced your phone; you are able to even visit your running totals by Category. Obviously this is often a minor quibble - Quicken doesnt need an IPhone client.
IGG is building a software forum where you are able to report issues with this software and put in feature requests. So far Ive found the developers responsive and quite reasonable.
Im over prepared to recommend whole process almost package to any or all comers. I have seen some difficulties with folks whod like to be competent to reconcile statements with downloads instantly, that is a feature I assume is for sale in Quicken for Windows I can tell you it is not in Quicken 07 for Mac.
Again, this is really a program being created by programmers rather than a giant faceless corporation, so Im personally over willing to have to wait for some on the issues to get ironed out as extra features are developed.
UPDATE, 2/17/11 Im upgrading in order to 5 stars. This program is very easy to use, have not lost any one my data whatsoever, which is so fast the reason is like a horrible nightmare to recollect my experiences with Quicken 2007. Yes, I do still have to go into my sales tax manually, high are a few other highlights Id like to find out, but my expense tracking and account reconciliation takes about 10% from the time I used to obtain to spend, thanks on the easy, fast search functions of IBank.
I realize other bands opinions are vastly different - I dont make use of this program to monitor stocks, for instance - however for what I was looking for any simple program to monitor my spending, reconcile my accounts and let me budget this method has changed my well being. As in, Ive gotten a number of it back, in lieu of struggling for hours wanting to perform simple functions in Quicken 2007. Thanks IGG!!

I switched from Quicken with a PC to iBank by using an iMac during a weekend. Overall a huge step up.
Our house switched to Macs five in the past but kept a vintage PC in order to run Quicken. Over time the job keeping a Windows PC happy managed to get not worth whatever benefits Quicken offered. The switch was a simple transfer of QIF files. On the plus side the graphics are incredibly user friendly and reports more clear-cut. Also I find less complicated to follow transactions and debug small problems, for instance our dreaded Quicken issue of account transfers arriving as income. The iPhone app can be a treat and syncs flawlessly through the house wifi network. If that you are advanced user you can sync your iphone using MobileMe. Just the iphone app makes slideshow Quicken-beater. My wife and I develop the mobile app on two iPhones total expense 5 and utilize it happily. On the minus side traditional bank downloads will not be as smooth as Quicken and you need to pay more attention on the process. Also, Quicken has numerous more bells and whistles-which my wife and I found messy and rarely used. Reports could be much more comprehensive in Quicken. iBank includes a limited search feature making it hard to search a certain payee among multiple accounts easier in Quicken. However, iBank genuinely does the job, and that we are more on the surface of our finances than ever. As a computer klutz the conversion spent about four hours of fussing over a weekend, but I felt enough time was well-spent rewarding as an alternative to frustrating. The help feature and support which I used twice are well-done. Quicken only agreed to be used to monitor household expenses. iBank may be so satisfactory will likely start tracking investments at the same time.

I purchased iBank to be a replacement for Quicken for Mac. As many Mac users know, when Apple upgraded their OS to Lion, that broke Quicken for Mac v. 7 or earlier, due to your removal with the Rosetta code through the Mac OS. Quicken Essentials wasn't an option personally, automobile almost complete inability to trace investments. I researched different alternatives Mint, Moneydance, Quicken Essentials, and chose iBank. Im overall very happy with iBank, but cant provide it with 5 stars with there being still things Id like to view improved or added.
The Pros for iBank for me personally were: 1. Ease of Transition. I exported my Quicken file I was using Quicken Deluxe for Mac v. 6 and followed iBanks very detailed instructions about the import process and it also worked all right. 2. Thirty day fully functional trial. I initially downloaded the trial from iBanks website. I was capable of use each one of its functions for thirty days without paying, and it also gave me an excellent opportunity to obtain the feel for that program and judge if I liked it. 3. Ease of use. While it can do do some things differently from Quicken, for an almost 20 year user of Quicken I found iBank pretty easy to understand to use, and Im very more comfortable with it now. 4. Online Banking and Transaction downloading. I decided to attempt to start taking benefit from these features in iBank, since that truly didnt work too well personally in Quicken, and Im glad I did. iBank successful, either downloading transactions directly through the banks that support it, or using iBanks Web Connect feature to download them in the banks website using iBanks integrated browser. Its been a good timesaver. 5. Mobile Device Sync. While I havent tried this yet, iBank has a iPhone mobile version plus the two can sync data that Ive heard works pretty much. I may be giving mtss is a try later.
The Cons which arent really bugs, similar to feature requests: 1. No integrated Bill Pay. I was obviously a Quicken Bill Pay customer, without Quicken alternative includes a built-in bill pay feature prefer that. I use bill pay through my bank now, understanding that works fine, but I still have to penetrate those transactions into iBank if I want to become able to view them reflected as upcoming transactions. I cant buy them by downloading from my bank till the day they really post. 2. Options tracking in investments. While you may enter Options as investments, so you even put within the Option Ticker once you set it up, iBank doesnt download daily quotes about the Option, which means that your final result within the option isnt reflected with your portfolio till you close the Option. iBank says these are working on adding this feature. 3. Account Reconciliation. This feature just doesnt flow right somehow. It works, and I think it truly might be more efficient than Quickens, nonetheless it still just feels off and a bit clunky in my opinion. I think this can be improved.
Thats my two cents on iBank. Its definitely worth a try should you need to move beyond Quicken with your Mac.

After twenty years on a PC, couldnt be happier to be a Mac user for that last several years. With Macs and Mac software, no aggravation, no frustration, and it is all totally beautiful, really visually pleasing.

Youd naturally believe that you could advance and start clicking the icon to start out adding a transaction because after you clicked the account name, something should happen, right? The additional clicks from trying to progress at what needs to be a normal pace when actually iBank hasnt trapped to your 1st click yet causes this course to crash. Crashing is a thing iBank does perfectly, and frequently.
Example: Click after click after click to accomplish one little thing. Lets do Apple stock this session. How many shares of Apple stock do I will have? Click over a Portfolio Report youve created. How well has my investment as stock done after some time? Click while on an Investment Summary report that youve created. Lets put in a dividend reinvestment for Apple stock. Click on that account to go into the transaction. 3 clicks and also a total of 5 minutes to acquire info you would like and make 1 transaction because nothing is from the same place. cannot view everything about your Apple stock during one screen when you easily can in other such programs.
Another example: entering a transaction in, say, Checking Account and also assign the trouble to a category, but dont recall exactly how the category was named. Cant click from the Category box to discover all available categories and scroll to get the one needed. Must know precisely what the category name is, then get into the 1st letter for everything to appear inside Category drop down box. Well, lets go for the Category list and pay attention to for sure which category I need. Ooops, must click Cancel so as to leave this Checking Account screen, and so loose the thing that was started. Click on Categories. Find the category needed. Oh, OK, thats what its called. Now, to Checking Account you need to the transaction yet again. transaction was I wanting to add? This one or that you?
None in this wasted some time to aggravation can be necessary if you may simply be able to find out all available categories from the inside the category drop down box. Such a fairly easy thing. Other programs are set up in this way. Not iBank.
Another example: include as part of your 2010 monthly budget expenses, say, Christmas. Only need to provide it for maybe eight weeks - Nov Dec. Except, iBank is not going to allow you to achieve that. Can only budget just how iBank programmers i would love you to budget, that's monthly, quarterly, or yearly. They will never allow you to budget a line item for almost any other period for instance 2 months. So, its impossible to put together within your 2010 Budget a line item for your Christmas category and budget X in Nov and X in Dec.
Another example: Its now Dec 4. Want to discover how you did with the budgeting for Nov? Cant, you silly goose. iBank programmers dont want you to determine how you did in different previous month where your budgeting v. actual. They will never allow you to change dates to watch previous periods. Can view only the existing months budgeting v. actual.
Another example: when splitting a transaction and desire to carry out some math to ascertain the split amounts, require to use the Macs calculator because there isnt one in the software like there exists with other such software. So, you should click about the calculator icon in iBank which opens the Macs calculator, then click the calculator to pick out it, then do your figuring, then click back on iBank to decide on it, then double click within the area you want to go into the amount you only calculated. Click click click click, thats everything you could do in iBank is click. Other financial programs employ a built-in calculator right where you need to perform the figuring which eliminates the necessity for all those additional clicks.
iBank just about does what you require it to accomplish. But, it unnecessarily adds so much some time to aggravation on the process that dealing using your money becomes a great deal more of a chore personal computer has for being. And, it's just not nice to check out nor well-laid on top of these. Yet, its still the most beneficial Mac home money software in existence. Youd think right now someone on the market would have gotten this right.

iBank is improving rapidly, and I am getting accustomed to it. After 11 weeks, I was more leisurely and productive with iBank that I ever was with Quicken for Mac, and after few months iBank now leaves Quicken 2007 for Mac inside the dust. iBank is using a path to rival Quicken for Windows. I first purchased iBank 3 for Mac in July 2010, thoroughly disgusted by Quicken Essentials. Id been using Quicken for countless years, so I knew that switching will be tedious, but without the need of improvements I wanted since 2007, and using the Essentials not printing checks, I jumped. I imported Quicken 2007 without serious issues, but nonetheless, with 13 active accounts going back to twenty years, there have been enough minor issues to use several hours on the next few days. I manage to recall a cheery recommendation from your iBank folks on the effect: Its fun to get started on over! Nuts to this.
ibank is improving rapidly, maybe like Quicken within the good old days. Forums are active, and seller support is outstanding. Quicken support is moribund, plus the most recent advice I got coming from a Quicken forum is to change to Windows. Example: my first seek to download directly from your financial institution failed, so I wrote support. Within hours, they responded that they tweaked something, and after that it worked. I am now linked to several savings accounts and several brokerage accounts without further problems. Forums happen to be largely or completely replaced using a knowledge base. Maybe they got sick and tired of reading when can you fix this?. Works seems to obtain slowed down.
Unlike Quicken, iBank is often a thoroughly Mac application, so getting familiar with iBank for any Mac user mostly comes down to unlearning Quicken, but after many years with Quicken, that can time, so have patience. Example: Checks print inside order listed inside the register, certainly not in numerical order. Two-click workaround: click from the heading in the transaction table to sort by check number, before printing, then after printing click Date to return for the usual sort by date. The makes usage of a feature common to most good Mac tools.
One impediment to downloading transactions may be the hundreds of manual entries I made because Quicken wouldn't normally connect for the long time that differed from those being downloaded. For example, I might call a vendor Sack N Save, nevertheless the bank might think of it as FOODLAND 4536 KINOOLE ADFIMAR DEBIT ACCOUNT TRANS. Yuck. And while I properly classify the transaction as POS Point of Service, the financial institution calls it a Withdrawal. Such differences produce an ugly and confusing transaction table and may lead to duplicate entries that I must avoid or edit out. iBank 4 contains a fantastic tool to map financial institutions verbiage to mine. Its easy and natural, and I apply it extensively for bank transactions. For investment transactions, I up to now choose to never use it, and instead to take the brokers verbiage, such as the all-caps shouting. Quickbooks for Mac has since added something similar, although Ive not used it. Quicken also?
I only recently cleaned up a few of my legacy accounts after many years of neglect through the dark times Quicken for Mac, on the point where I can really use reports on these accounts. Reports are uneven: some are excellent with good drill-down features; some not. Works happening. Im still learning. Check out the IGG iBank forums for further. Reports are now slightly better.
Yesterday 1/12/11 I found a bug inside Payee Summary report: some totals are incorrect, not matching the sums in the drill-down entries. Switching to a new report and back corrects larger than fifteen. Today 1/13/11 the program froze twice, requiring Forced Shutdown. I lost no data. Ive never lost data, so Im not sweating during these bugs. This list of bugs is corrected.
The youth of iBank is seen from the tiny 3-pane Preferences panel. Getting started is thereby faster, but youll later chafe at the not enough options and customization. This may not last long, however, because iBank is improving rapidly. iBank 3 crawled, but iBank 4 is responsive in this little iMac. iBank 3 didnt use or barely used secondary menus; iBank 4 uses them extensively, though room additional improvement. Several other weaknesses disappeared on the last a few months. At the actual rate of progress, I would expect some on the weaknesses down the page to disappear inside the next few months. I dont anticipate here we are at Quicken unless iBank goes belly up. Preferences remain sparse. The only thing that might force money to Quicken is not any support for electronic payments. An increasing pain.
o discount on major upgrades for existing users not in Mac App store, I suppose
o nicer, easier indirect download support via files or web pages
o really nice strategy to map downloads from the institutions verbiage to yours has Quicken trapped?
o nicely organized number of reports.
o limited editing of reports content and format, although default option is pleasing
o no built-in calculator corrected, works great
o Still some bugs and stalls, but info is not lost havent stalled within a long time

We are already using Quicken 2001 forever using a PC, though the PC was willing to die, and now we were tired in the PC we bought an iMac. Its our second iMac, actually, so we love it. But I
We never upgraded Quicken because the 2001 version. In my opinion, Quicken is plenty of stuff we didnt require and werent going to work with that much, and then we didnt really employ a good reason to ever upgrade. The reviews on Quicken for Mac scared us clear of it, most reviews on the product seemed okay, therefore we gave it trying, and also have liked it enough to convert in the 30-day free trial to your licensed version. So far, its working well. The auto-downloads from the cards are great. We use small, local banks by which account activity downloads are certainly not supported, but I doubt Quicken might have supported them either. I imported the whole Quicken accounts, which was virtually painless. I employ a brokerage account that I downloaded from Ameritrade, and I did should hassle slightly with that to indicate purchases I made more than a year ago, and I were forced to do an entry then to the cash balance, but Im a los angeles accountant, so in my opinion it wasnt to bad this time. Other peoples mileage with less experience adjusting account balances can vary greatly.
The only place Im likely to ding this product a bit is account reconciliation. I do like the way in which Quicken creates this change better, but iBank just isn't awful by any means. You just have to repay a bit more attention whenever you do the task. All in all of the, I think we'll like this system. We purchased it for any month and possess gone through an entire month banking cycle, so I feel very good about recommending this supplement.

Ive been using Quicken for Mac provided I can remember maybe 10 years. Its always sorta sucked, nevertheless it was really the only game in the city. Then, as years passed, it started sucking a whole much bigger. Last year, I switched to Quicken Essentials for Mac. Wow! That was suckage worthy of your Olympic medal. Seriously awful. I just finished getting ready for my 2010 taxes, and I honestly have no clue if some of my facts are accurate. So, besides did Quicken make my financial life hell, but it really left me with questionable results. Goodbye, Quicken.
In early November of recently 2009, I decided to discover a new app for my finances. I read many reviews of iBank and also other apps. I was surprised and delighted by how many financial apps had appeared to fill the enormous vacuous black hole of suck left by Quicken. I downloaded several demos, and gave each one of these a week of my own time. After much testing, I chosen iBank.
I used iBank for each one of December, and now to the first few days this year. Its awesome! It worked the same manner described, and managed it without making me check-recheck-and-re-recheck the details. Its has an incredibly clean, easy to find out interface, devoid of distractions. It incorporates a solid report generator, as well as a nifty looking envelope style budgeting tool that Ill probably never use. It downloads transactions and not using a hitch and keeps me posted using its progress. It elegantly assigns categories based on my own previous entries. all as described. There are a couple things Id like to discover changed, but theyre all really easy and mostly cosmetic. Hardly worth complaining about.
All in most, Im thrilled using the purchase, and Im looking forward for the next 15 years on this app. Hello iBank!

I would be a windows user most my well being. I faithfully owned every version of Money Microsoft produced and after that they did a stop of life on the website software so I switched to Quicken. Well then I got a mac and attended quicken for mac plus it was nice. I used Quicken 2007 for mac for countless years and finally Quicken brought out what they called Quicken Essentials that has been just a useless program. They stripped out most the useful features, etc. So I downgraded back in Quicken 2007 as my primary finance tool and in parallel started having fun with iBank. iBank is NOT as pretty as Quicken 2007 was which can be sort of however. But the application does everything I need it to complete. Then when Apple announced OSX Lion and Quicken announced Quicken 2007 wouldn't normally work well that merely sealed the sale. I left quicken 2007 and still have been using iBank 4. Ive used iBank for probably 3-4 months now off and on plus the last a couple weeks daily as my primary tool. It would be a slow transition as I wanted for getting used into it slowly before I upgraded to Lion.
What I like will it be works. Its simple and also the web connect download of transactions is very intense. Quicken accustomed to take a long time to download my transactions, iBank is often a meere couple of seconds.
iBank boasts the one feature the majority of software is missing, the money flow forecast. A vital tool with how I do my budgets.
iBank is NOT the most polished software package Ive ever used. But because of the limited finance software around the mac it really may be the best. Plus should you use the add-on iphone app and sync important computer data to it, you might have one more method to keep track of your cash. The app is really a few bucks inside the app store but it will probably be worth it.
Im happy using this, I wish they'd fix some graphic issues, make forecast chart look better, but thats really the sole complaint I have and thats minor.
If you may need finance software I recommend you download an endeavor version in this software in the developers website at iggsoftware and then should you like it enough to get it, understand it here on amazon because it is cheaper then buying it straight from your developer and the apple app store.

I was obviously a Quicken user for quite some time. After switching to Mac, I researched financial software and bought iBank 3. I had not been satisfied so I tried Quicken for Mac AWFUL switched to Moneydance a superb program but started having download problems. There were features in iBank that I really liked then when iBank 4 arrived, I ever done it again. What a difference! iBank incorporates a bit of a learning curve. After reading some on the reviews ie: iBank lacking the ability to penetrate split TRUE, it can I realize a lot in the complaints are via people not fully reading how to make use of it. My favorite feature would be the ability to scan receipts and fasten them to your register entry. Now I can find any receipt I need. The best part of employing iBank could be the Customer Service. I have never had such a fantastic experience! If I run to a problem, I email them and they besides respond quickly, but if there exists a fix needed on this course, they address it immediately. I am extremely please with iBank 4 and suggest it. Just remember, financial programs all their very own particular quirks and yes it is needed to really learn how to make use of it, not assume all programs work much the same way. I recommend iBank4.

I transferred to Mac over six in the past and have needed to maintain a Boot Camp partition and multiple versions of Windows all of this time as the Quicken for Mac products cannot even come near to the versions of Quicken for Windows I had used since 1994.
I have purchased and uninstalled no less than 4 versions of Quicken for Mac such as latest Mint-inspired Quicken Essentials for Mac as a result of poor buyer experience and truncated feature set cant track my 401k - - seriously?. I have also tried a slew of Mac financial loans such as Cashculator, Jumsoft Money, MoneyDance, MoneyWell and Cha-Ching. None of them came in close proximity to Quicken for Windows and to the trashcan they went.
I figured I was stuck maintaining a Windows partition and paying Intuit another 69-89 for that annual Quicken update which strangely appears to not add many useful the latest features, however, many years got prettier because I always wanted the existing release, in case.
Then I came across iBank 4 I had previously tried and uninstalled iBank 3 and figured I would provide another shot whats that specification of insanity, again?.
I did a QIF export of my Quicken accounts and imported it into iBank 4 and yes it populated the info, transactions, categories and just about all I needed I were forced to reset in the online access, but which was anticipated - - including my 401k and IRA accounts. I can now go through the download button and literally within 10-seconds every single account - - plastic cards, bank, savings, lending institution, investments - - are updated capable to import in their correct accounts which has a single click Quicken takes much, for a long time and errors out frequently. Like numerous others, Im a longtime Quicken for Mac user who was simply greatly disappointed together with the release captured of Quicken Essentials for Mac. For a long set of its deficiencies, understand the reviews - then one star rating - of Quicken Essentials for Mac here on Amazon - basically its Accounting Lite but not a real program for adults with complicated finances.
I had considered prior versions of IBank but have been put off by its insufficient comprehensive reporting features. This past weekend I was delighted to find out IBank 4 presently has customize-able reporting. You can set of only one payee or category, or practically any combination of accounts.
Although, in a way I wont need reports normally - you'll be able to search by Payee, Category, or just about any keyword from the main Document window per account, and after that see your complete transactions. EDIT: I had said within the first draft with this review that you just cant seek out keywords across accounts but simply now I stumbled upon the answer: If you put your active accounts in a Group mine is named 2011 Credit Cards, then enter a keyword in this Group window view - every one of the transactions in a of that Groups accounts containing the keyword will pop right up within a list. I had also thought you couldnt search using numbers that is also incorrect - I had just been going about it the wrong manner. You absolutely can try to find numbers with your accounts, either individually or by group, that is incredibly helpful when you reconcile personally as I transactions containing amounts like 12.87 or 5.34 are instantly available once entered within the search windows. I switched from Quicken using a PC to iBank while on an iMac throughout a weekend. Overall an enormous step up.
Our house switched to Macs five years back but kept a vintage PC to run Quicken. Over time the job keeping a Windows PC happy got not worth whatever benefits Quicken offered. The switch was a straightforward transfer of QIF files. On the plus side the graphics are certainly user friendly and reports more clear-cut. Also I find less complicated to follow transactions and debug small problems, like our dreaded Quicken issue of account transfers appearing as income. The iPhone app is often a treat and syncs flawlessly through home wifi network. If you might be advanced user you could potentially sync your iphone using MobileMe. Just the iphone app makes mtss is a Quicken-beater. My wife and I develop the mobile app on two iPhones total extra expense 5 and utilize it happily. On the minus side lender downloads are certainly not as smooth as Quicken and you need to pay more attention on the process. Also, Quicken has several more bells and whistles-which my wife and I found messy and rarely used. Reports could be much more comprehensive in Quicken. iBank features a limited search feature making it hard to search a particular payee among multiple accounts easier in Quicken. However, iBank will the job, and that we are more on surface of our finances than ever before. As a computer klutz the conversion spent about four hours of fussing on the weekend, but I felt enough time was well-spent rewarding instead of frustrating. The help feature and support which I used twice are well-done. Quicken only agreed to be used to trace household expenses. iBank may be so satisfactory will likely start tracking investments at the same time.

Much easier to utilize than Quicken. Quicken necessitates ofx download format. The Harborlight Credit Union in Whitehall MIchigan does not make use of the new format. Read more
They made some improvements over prir version.
I still liked the earlier Quicken version however they changed the format so were required to change.

Not incredibly strong or flexible. I keep dreaming about improvements, however the updates all seem minor. Too lazy to go to Quickbooks, but wish I hadnt changed.
Not competitive with Quicken, but it really does the work.

Works well, easy to make use of, produces useful reports, a compelling alternative to more well known competitors. Ill be adhering to this for your long run.

Just okay, Im looking to get a better program which can be more simple to use.
Thought it absolutely was gonna replace Quicken in my opinion, but horrible chat-only or email with round-the-clock response time left me frustrated and mad that I even wasted time. Read more
