Yes XP is just not perfect but hardly slow than the bloated and rushed VISTA. If you execute a clean install with XP and your laptop is still slow its your hardware or you could have the wrong drivers installed. This just isn't XPs fault.

Thanks to get back to me so soon. I am aware in the web page at the url you provided.
However, as I stated in my original entry, I needed to re-image my older DELL PC using the licensed copy of XP Pro that came together with the PC and wish to upgrade to SP3 eventually. The XP Pro SP1a download within Microsoft keeps failing from server at 1106a.
I have tried numerous times to complete the download using the above mentined link, but am not able to download XP Pro SP1a due to Microsoft server failures using the hyperlink above.
Is there a different server address/link available or some other approach besides downloading SP1a? Im getting nowhere whilst download.

Tech-Geek, many thanks taking the time for it to download the SP1a file and prepare it for my use.
Sorry for indicating a matter was answered, in the event it isnt. Dont know how that happened, since I am not really acquainted with posting entries for the blogs, and dont know the way to undo it. I am sending this response from my other PC, not one I attempting to resurrect.
Anyway, once the download begins, it seems like to work fine. After my system does the backup just before the upgrade, I visit a pop-up window state Downloading files and patches. This is the download that fails. After about 30 secs, I get a msg stating The server wouldn't respond. It says to retry the download a few times if unsuccessful, go to your XP Service Pack site and select Problems Downloading the Service Pack. I havent located within this web site any extra instructions for tips on how to download without requiring an online connection during cellular phone.
The PC on what I am wanting to rebuild the software program environment has only Windows XP Pro, driver updates, DVD and CD burning software installed and that would it be. It will not be a functioning PC at this time. No security software even.
Any further guidance before I consider using a hammer?
