Thank you Jesus Christ! This operating-system has been with me at night a short while however it's very enjoyable. Throughout my brief years around the computer to be a new user it happens to be impressive. Just the prefer. Even the preview of Microsoft Windows 8 will not compare to Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2.
So far Windows XP is simply by far the slowest OS Ive ever caused. Not definitely worth the buy in any respect.
Windows XP just isn't a good OS, given it keeps crashing for silly and its so slow, even in the event you have 1-2GB of memory. If you've got XP, I recommend that you just upgrade to Vista SP1 or 7 now.
Reply by whatsyourpoint on June 18, 2012
Yikes! Whatever you choose to do, dont use Vista period! 7 is a useful one though.
Reply by spacetimezi on February 6, 2012
Yes XP just isn't perfect but hardly slow when compared to the bloated and rushed VISTA. If you perform clean install with XP as well as your computer continues to be slow its your hardware or else you have the wrong drivers installed. This just isn't XPs fault.
The following step is to buy a brand new computer with 7. You can get a fresh one for any couple hundred and in the event you need a great computer for tech you'll be able to build your own for the few hundred also. Im sure you can find techs where you live that will let you. Either way the rule of thumb is XP for old computers, and 7 for brand new ones. And in the event you absolutely cant stand XP for reasons uknown then change to linux. Its free and much more secure.
Very, excellent Windows program
Easy to cope with problems, simple to navigate. Holds enough. Tells when there is often a problem and fixes it easily. Fast 85% on the time. Good household computer, tells whenever a program may harm your laptop, and asks should you would prefer to run it.
Lags sometimes ANNOYING, is usually slow 35% on the time. When multiple tabs windows are running while doing so, each of the programs immediately become unresponsive. When programs become unresponsive, pain within the neck to seal the program down.
Overall, I have had this computer ALL MY LIFE, plus it still works like brand-new. This computer can be an old but trusted friend, and when you need to pick out a fresh program, go using this. You wont regret it!:
in case your Microsoft ME operating-system wont work anymore, purchase a upgrade package off ebay that converts your o/s to XP home. Yes, it truly does work OK and permits you to keep your current computer more years. as Microsoft will support XP thru 2013
no choice but to convert to xp from ME. XP home works okay and all my old software is effective on it. No support for ME which was very successful for me for ten years. Time to progress up to XP to help keep software current.
XP is likely to go down as Microsofts best os ever. After service pack 2 and 3, they finally have it working! Why reinvent the wheel? Im happy as well as set for at least 2-3 years because of a 50 upgrade pkg purchased off ebay

Slipstreaming is often done on network shares on corporate systems, just about all makes sense for your home user or small enterprise user to accomplish.

From some sources I hear you'll need a Windows XP Home or Professional with SP2 Setup CD. You cannot slipstream SP3 into an innovative Windows XP CD or even an XP with SP1 CD. Slipstreaming SP3 will simply work through an XP SP2 CD. Others have suggested that slipstreaming by having an SP1 integrated CD works. Here is what I found:
Windows XP Gold : Slipstreaming SP3 appeared to work until it came on the point I had to activate Windows XP. It would not activate XP over the Internet may possibly also not update through the phone with all the automated system. I didnt speak into a live person concerning this though. Without activating I couldnt use Windows Update.
Windows XP SP2 : Slipstreaming SP3 worked fine. I also was capable of skip putting inside product key during installation that was not an option using the XP gold slipstreamed version. I had to activate to work with Windows Update - which worked without a challenge using the Internet activation - I didnt get any errors on Windows Update, and updates were provided.

Maybe youre what kind who cant fathom being absent while Windows installs, not able to prune each of the unnecessary applications and features, modify the desktop, create user accounts and install needed drivers. Well, you and I possess a lot in keeping, but we could both enjoy what nLite, a complimentary slipstreaming utility, is capable of doing:
Pre-configure and tweak Windows Nearly every power-user setting, from hidden file showing to deep registry hacks, could be set through the get-go.
Pre-install drivers and printers No more searching throughout the Nvidia, ATI, or printer manufacturers sites for that exact package after install.
Strip one's body for speed Adams already showed us how nLite can assist you trim Windows to its bare essentials, which not simply saves disk space and loosens memory, but helps save the time of disabling and taking off the superfluous stuff later and clicking Yes on every Are you prompt.
A working Windows system, with a minimum of 1 GB free hard disk drive space
Note for Vista users: Theres a similar utility for setting up a slipstreamed Vista DVD, vLite, which got the step-by-step treatment from Digital Inspiration. That tool, however, doesnt permit half the maximum amount of customizationnot yet, anyways.
After youve installed nLite, load your installation CD in your disc drive make certain youve got your 25-character product key handy. Launch nLite, click for the next screen, Locating the Windows installation. Before you go further, create a different folder somewhere on your personal machine, at the hard disk root just as C: when possible. Click Browse, select your CD drive, and material prompted to duplicate your CD into a folder. Select the folder you created, then wait with the copy to complete.
NLites next screen asks what you need to customize with your install disc. If you only would like to update to SP3, only click on the Service Pack button. But if you don't love answering questions and do not touch a setting in Windows XP, youll wish to flip each of the switches green and click on Next.
Now nLite ask for slipstream files, or packages you wish to integrate into your installer. Youll always need to have the modern service pack available, since, by way of example, Service Pack 3 incorporates the fixes produced in SP1 and SP2, in order that it makes them unnecessary. If you grabbed the newest beta of nLite, youll view a Service Pack 3 already offered for integration, nonetheless its an older release candidate. Hit the Choose button, simply select the executable file you downloaded from Microsoft using the seriously long file name, and provide nLite a short while to implement it. When you start to see the version number change, hit Next and go forward.
Hotfixes and Update Packs is for every one of the tiny little Windows Updates between service packs. If youre including SP3, you are able to pretty much skip this part. But inside the future, and then for those not jumping onto SP3, I recommend running WinUpdatesList. Youll see a set of all the updates youve installed, and sorting by date and type should explain to you what youve installed since last service pack. Right-click while on an update, and youll get yourself a link into a related Microsoft Knowledge Base article, in which you should be capable of download the fix directly and patch it into nLite. You can also roll executables for Windows updateslike Internet Explorer 7, which still! doesnt install by defaultinto your disc.
Click Next, and youll see much the same screen for drivers. If you know finding files that connect your hardware to Windows, you are able to roll them for your install disc, but be warned: a smaller printer INF increased a final size of my ISO by at the very least 200 MBIm still considering why, but in the event you encounter similar problems, simply toss the driver installation files into spare space for the disc read more about that soon.
You start really making your XP system your own around the next screen. The Compatibility Window that arises can protect you yourself; unless youre sure it is possible to do with no item, youll desire to leave it checked. Behind it, the Remove Components section is where you may pull out every one of the stuff you dont ever use or don't possess. Most with the savings are small in harddrive size, but keep system from clogging with services and drivers it doesnt need. Among the almost-guaranteed safe removals:Briefcase from Accessories; most from the non-red belongings in Hardware; Keyboards and Languages which you dont ever plan to work with; Tablet PC from Multimedia; and MSN Explorer and Windows Messenger from Network.
Up next will be the Unattended section, should you checked it, and also this one requires focus on detail. If you would like to set and end up forgetting your XP install, change Unattended Mode to Fully automated, even so move slowly through every tab, filling out every section youd expect to have prompted for during install. You can prepare your Product Key in advance here, and youll also need to check Skip OOBE Out Of Body Experience, or introduction tour. Fill out the many name fields in Users and Owner and Network ID, make certain to set time in Regional. Once youre content youve pre-empted your installer, click Next.
You can virtually leave the Options pane alone, although I give the merge option via hoping for any smaller package. The Tweaks options up next, and although I cant tell you how you can customize your desktop, Ill note which you can basically set your desktop, Start Menu, Internet Explorer and a lot of other Windows tweaks on the market prompts. Check the bottom bar for descriptions, and fear notall of these might be undone, and weve posted most of the here at Lifehacker.
Hit Next, and youre almost doneclick Yes to begin with the bundling process. Once thats finished about 7-10 minutes on the faster computer, you'll be able to click by way of make or burn an ISO file. Before doing that, gather up any files you wish to keep around the disc, like this finicky printer driver or perhaps your favorite app installers, and them in their own personal folder inside directory the place you copied your original XP CD to. Now hit Make ISO, choose where you should save the style, after which burn it to CD or DVD making use of your favorite utility, much like the free ISO Recorder.
Youve now got a CD thats completely updated, and installs on it's own once you have past the original blue-and-white loading screens, which is. You could have to run through nLite a couple of times if your images end up bigger than you need, but you'll be able to always develop a bootable DVD if required.

Three plus a half years after my previous Windows XP slipstreaming guide for XP Service Pack 2, or SP2, were returning with what I assume will likely be my last XP slipstreaming guide, these times covering Windows XP Service Pack 3 SP3. I first covered slipstreaming about the SuperSite almost seven years back, for Windows 2000, the very first Windows version to guide this functionality. Not surprisingly, the method hasnt changed much along with the end result is a version from the current Windows Setup CD thats been integrated with all the latest updates. Microsoft promises a much more elegant way of slipstreaming with Windows Vista, but thats been pushed time for Vista SP2, so with the foreseeable future, were still with all the old but reliable method documented here.
As a concise refresher, slipstreaming was originally built to help Microsofts corporate customers integrate the most recent updates inside their network-based OS install images to ensure they wouldnt should waste time deploying an OS image to multiple PCs merely to later ought to wait around while enormous variety of updates were installed. With slipstreaming, it is possible to keep an OS image reasonably up-to-date whilst post-install updates to your minimum. And for whatever its worth, Microsoft uses this method to create updated integrated installation media of that own if a Windows service pack is released.
Of course, what Im documenting here are going to be of interest primarily to those and, perhaps, small companies that do not possess access to Microsofts volume licensing programs whereby they might receive up-to-date install media with an ongoing basis. And as those who have installed Windows XP with Service Pack 2 SP2 within the last 12 months can explain to you, theres nothing such as monotony of installing the OS then having to put in 100 more updates over multiple reboots. Its merely right.
But integrating your Windows XP with SP2 Setup disc with SP3 can make everything OK, at the least the next time you choose to do a fresh OS install. And rather than 100 updates to set up after the OS install, youll just use a handful. Though that number will obviously continue to get higher over time.
Disclaimer: While I will endeavor and help readers who encounter problems integrating XP with SP3, understand that you simply proceed at your individual risk. Be bound to fully backup everything on the system before wiping against each other and reinstalling, whether with the integrated XP SP3 disc or else. Understand you will should abide by Microsofts production activation requirements which these technologies could ask you to activate XP by telephone after an OS reinstall. Be prepared to go back on your previous XP Setup CD if things dont workout. If you enter into this with all the right mindset, the worst scenario is that you simply have to purchase a fresh copy of XP with SP2 and after that immediately install SP3 afterwards. Thats not too horrible.
This time around, Im only providing some instructions, involving only freely available tools you'll be able to readily find online. Heres what you should make it work.
A Windows XP Home or Professional with SP2 Setup CD. Its possible that an innovative XP Setup CD or perhaps an XP with SP1 Setup CD work, but Ive only tested XP with SP2, both retail and volume license versions with the CD. You could have luck with OEM CDs from PC makers likewise, depending the amount the company changed the disc layout. Full or Upgrade CDs work just great. Previously splipstreamed discs are fine too. But Ive only tested this with versions of XP which include just a single Setup CD: Media Center and Tablet PC users are in a hopeless situation.
Windows XP Service Pack 3 Standalone Updater. This 316 MB file is actually available through the Microsoft Web site.
Other downloads. You may need to be prepared with various other installation files, perhaps over a USB key or burned CD. These files might include drivers particular in your hardware especially a network driver to help you get online as well as the application updates mentioned in Step 6 below.
Be certain to download the XP SP3 standalone installer and download and install ISO Buster and ImgBurn before proceeding.
Important note for Vista users: You can perform these stages in either Windows XP or Windows Vista, your selection. Ive completed it both ways, nevertheless the screen shots here show XP because, well, this can be an XP-based process and all of. But either OS works fine, with one caveat: For some reason, tries to slipstreaming volume license versions of Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 under Windows Vista will not likely work, resulting within a condition where Product Activiation won't recognize a legitimate Product Key. To overcome this challenge, be sure running Step 3 with admin privileges, as described because step. If that doesnt work, simply employ XP for your slipstream.
Open your My Computer in Vista, Computer window and navigate to Tools then Folder Options. In the Folder Options dialog, navigate towards the View tab and pick the option titled Show hidden files and folders. Then, uncheck an opportunity titled Hide protected main system files Recommended. Dispense with all the Warning dialog that appears. Click OK to shut the Folder Options dialog.
Insert your Windows XP with SP2 Setup CD inside the optical drive within your PC and close any auto-run window that appears. In My Computer or Computer, right-go through the optical drive and select Open. Leave of the question open which has a view in the contents with the Windows XP Setup CD.
Open My Computer again. This time, navigate on the root from the C: drive and other location to which youd want to save the files youll eventually integrate with SP3. Create a folder named xp such as C:xp. Then, build a second folder named sp3 as with C:sp3.
Now, drag and drop the contents on the XP Setup CD in to the C:xp folder.
Now, you should extract the SP3 files. While the files are copying involving the two locations, copy the Windows XP SP3 standalone installer typically from the US to C:sp3. Then, open a command line window Start, Run, cmd in Windows XP; in Vista, just open the Start Menu and type cmd in Start Menu Search.
Then, while using following commands exactly, navigate to C:sp3 and extract the files Note that the link ENTER means hit the ENTER key:
An Extracting Files dialog may come up and display the progress.
When the extraction is finished, the subsequent dialog look. Press OK to keep.
Inside C:sp3, youll see a fresh folder called i386 containing the extracted files.
Now, type the following inside the command line window where ENTER means hit the ENTER key:
Warning: If you are looking to slipstream a volume license version of Windows XP Professional from Windows Vista, the preceding steps must run just as one administrator. To accomplish that, right-click for the desktop and judge New then Shortcut. In the Create Shortcut dialog, paste inside following bolded text: - s:c:xp/strong
Then, click Next, offer the Shortcut a reputation, and click on Finish. Run the shortcut by right-clicking it deciding on Run as administrator. Then proceed normally. Thanks to John Straffin for that tip.
The Software Installation Wizard will be and integrate the SP3 files into your XP with SP2 install files.
When the integration is complete, youll see these dialog. Click OK to carry on.
Close the command line window. Type exit then tap Enter.
Before you may burn the integrated files to CD, you'll have to extract a low profile file found with your XP Setup CD; this file can be used to help make your brand-new CD bootable. To do it, you must use a disc image extractor like ISOBuster.
With the XP with SP2 Setup CD still inside the optical drive, run ISO Buster and select Free func. only in the Registration dialog. You should see similar to this:
In the left-side tree view, select Bootable Disc. When you are doing so, the best side changes and display merely a few files. One will probably be named Microsoft Figure or similar; it is going to be named : This could be the file you should extract. To do it, right-click and select Extract Microsoft Figure. When ISOBuster prompts you, elect to download it for the C:sp3 folder.
Now its a pointer to make the bootable XP with SP3 Setup CD. Start Nero Burning ROM and click on OK inside the Welcome dialog that explains youre having a Trial Version. Burning ROM will start which has a New Compilation window open. Select CD-ROM Boot on the left side.
Then, inside source section, ensure Image file is selected and then click on the Browse button. Navigate to C:sp3 then drop down this list box thats currently set to Boot-Image-Files IMA and judge All Files. The select Microsoft and click on OK.
Then, inside Advanced section with the New Compilation window, ensure that Enable expert settings for advanced users only! is selected and judge No Emulation as Kind of Emulation.
Ensure that 07C0 would be the value under Load segment of sectors hex!. Which it is actually by default.
Change the Number of loaded sectors value from 1 to 4.
When your choices in this dialog are configured correctly, it needs to resemble these:
Click the New button to seal the New Compilation window. The normal Burning ROM UI will be with a blank compilation for the left and also a tree view of your respective PCs file system around the right.
Using the File Browser tab about the right side, navigate to C:xp. Then, drag the full contents in this folder over for the left side with the window. This should take just one or two seconds.
Now, taking note in the name on the Windows XP with SP2 Setup CD in Burning ROMs File Browser, rename your CD compilation accordingly. For example, in the event the name with the disc is WXPVOLEN, use that. Yours might be different, but Ive also found out that this step is basically optional; names like WINXPSP3 may actually work fine also.
Remove your XP Setup CD and then select the Burn button from the Burning ROM toolbar. The Burn Compilation window can look, as shown below. Check the alternative titled Finalize disc No further writing possible! and click Burn. Burning ROM will prompt someone to insert a blank disc. Any CD-R or CD-RW will perform.
Once the CD is fully gone, you need to test it. If you could have an extra PC to throw advertising online, thats the best longterm option. Otherwise, try installing it inside a virtual machine with Virtual PC first: Virtual PC costs nothing and provides a great environment for testing. You shouldnt eliminate your only PC until youre sure the modern disc will probably work.
Do not enter your product or service key during Setup: Ive been told by readers and still have read separately online that there is often a problem in certain cases where Setup will never accept a real Windows XP Product Key with an integrated XP with SP3 install. For this reason, you must choose not to enter in the Product Key until after XP is installed. Obviously, I cant test every possible permutation, but I have successful activated XP integrated with SP3 without any help systems repeatedly in this particular fashion.
After youve installed your integrated version of Windows XP with Service Pack 3 SP3, youre going to need to immediately visit Windows Update, upgrade to Microsoft Update, and after that install whatever critical updates can be found. While thats happening, or after its completed and youve rebooted when needed, youll ought to download other crucial tools. Some obvious candidates include Windows Defender anti-spyware, AVG Free 8.0 and other anti-virus solution, Internet Explorer 7, and Windows Media Player 11 which might show up on Windows/Microsoft Update.
When youre done testing, you must consider burning the newly created CD, and deleting the cruft youve added for a hard drive, specifically the directories C:xp and C:sp3.
Windows XP Service Pack 3 should indeed be the end connected with an era, and thus Im not longer supporting this post. Good luck, and happy slipstreaming!
Thanks for helpful article, however although you've suggested to acquire image burn you apparently have given instructions for several software; Nero Burning ROM.
Thanks for your instructive description. However, I second Mikes remark about Imgburn, which I choose to Nero.
Paul, you proceed to the trouble of explaining that enter stands with the Enter Key, but no word products you you will mean by: and. I am baffled what they mean!
I too had trouble together with the extraction and integration commands until I remarked that the right and left carets and text they enclose mustn't be typed they seem being html tags.
Also having issues with Nero 12 and mean to try ImgBurn instead; shame because Pauls Nero instructions are extremely explicit.
Just successfully burnt my disc using ImgBurn this claims to be competent to extract the boot image file and contains a useful Guide to your whole process. I actually used IsoBuster to complete the extraction a young version because great-sounding program is apparently now paid-for only.
Like many, I was seeking to see a different Lumia flagship before the finish of 2014, although I was amazed in some ways by their Lumia 735 and 830, neither provides level of performance or best-in-market camera quality I had arrived at expected from Microsoft/Nokias high-end devices. So I pulled the trigger while on an unlocked Windows Phone flagship that can hopefully take me through at least the very first half of the year. Or until Microsoft gets off its low-end fixation and satisfies the needs of the company's biggest More
