Protects your entire Windows, Mac OS, Android, and iOS devices. Antivirus rates rich in lab tests and our tests. Accurate antiphishing and antispam. Five licenses for Intel True Key password manager. Impressive Personal Locker encrypted storage uses voice and facial recognition for authentication.
Firewall not fully protected. Minimal parental control. Mac OS support somewhat limited. iOS support limited.
Now that each one of McAfees products protect your complete devices, the most up-to-date version of LiveSafe isn't unique. Even so, it leads the way in performance, plus the biometrically authenticated Personal Locker help remain a top-notch pick for security suites.
The products published by most security suite vendors align nicely, each one of these completely containing one before it. Everything thats within the antivirus, you additionally get within the security suite, and many more. The feature-laden mega-suite begins with whats within the regular suite and piles on more features. This pattern doesnt hold with the 2016 edition of McAfee LiveSafe 89.99 annually for unlimited licenses, though. Heres the sale.
McAfee pioneered the technique of a single subscription to shield all in the Windows, Mac OS, Android, and iOS devices in the household. With your LiveSafe subscription, you might install McAfee Total Protection on all within your PCs, and also the corresponding Mac OS, Android, and iOS products on the other devices. The distinction between your mega-suite along with the all-devices suite was clear in past years.
The current number of products blurs the lines. At every stage, beginning with McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2016, users have the cross-platform multi-device support that had been only obtained in LiveSafe. That fact in conjunction with some minor realignment of features definitely makes the three top products extremely similar.
Normally I leverage the nesting-dolls style within my reviews. I assess the antivirus, then summarize that review when I focus on the entry-level suite. I summarize the entry-level suite data during my review in the mega-suite. Not these times. To fully appreciate this expansive product, you need to first peruse my report on McAfee Internet Security 2016, and come back to this review to master whats different in McAfee LiveSafe.
New this current year, seventy one McAfee suites include Intels True Key password manager. True Key does all of the expected password manager tasks, though currently it doesnt support filling Web forms with private data. The big feature is True Key Profile, a process that enables you to use up to five various forms of authentication, particularly trusted devices and facial recognition.
With the entry-level suite, you get 1 True Key license. Given that you are able to protect all of your household with any McAfee product, one subscription is probably not enough. With McAfee LiveSafe, you obtain five licenses, so five members within your household can each have an independent password collection. McAfee Total Protection also gets five True Key licenses.
The Personal Locker feature, specific to McAfee LiveSafe, offers 1GB of ultra-encrypted online storage for the most sensitive information. This info is protected using a dual voice- and facial-recognition system that might be nearly impossible to spoof. Its got a James Bond vibe that may surely thrill many.
To get rolling, you log in on your McAfee account on the internet and send a set up link for your Android or iOS device, or a Windows 8 PC which has camera and microphone capability. Sorry, it's just not for Mac OS devices presently. You can also just download the app through the appropriate app store and activate it while using the code supplied for the My Account page. Simple!
After activating, I developed a six-digit PIN and snapped a picture of my face. I recited a press release into the microphone 3 x. And I answered three security questions. With those preliminaries aside, my account was ready for usage.
Those security questions did worry me. Could a hacker get into my locker by Googling inside the answers? As it turns out, thats an enormous no. If for reasons unknown the biometric authentication just doesnt work, you will need to call tech support and convince the support agent that youre legit, partly by answering those questions. If youre convincing, the agent can remotely supply you with temporary access.
When the individual locker is open, you may put any available files or photos in it, so long as theyre no bigger 10MB. You can enter secure notes directly into your locker. And it is possible to snap an image that goes directly to the locker, without ever hitting your family camera roll. Theres also an alternative to organize your secured item into folders.
Each time you add a product to the private locker, you select high or low security. Items with low security require only your six-digit PIN for access. If you select high security, youll need to go through a biometric authentication process.
To access a high-security item, you snap a fresh photo of the face. Assuming Personal Locker validates that photo, you next recite the typical voice recognition phrase that you simply recorded during setup. Finally you read another phrase, the one which changes with each use. The first time I tried it, I got, Insanity is progressing the same thing again and again, expecting different results. This last step avoids the possibility that someone could fool the machine using a recording. In testing, I had no trouble putting together Personal Locker while on an Android tool and accessing my files upon an iOS device.
Of course, when a punch within the face changes your appearance, or if you obtain laryngitis, you could potentially lose access on your locker. To make sure that doesnt happen, you'll be able to share your locker with one trusted friend. This delegate, who does not have to be a McAfee user, receives a contact explaining tips on how to install and configure Personal Locker. Once that process is complete, you'll be able to rely on that friend to look at the locker available for you if for whatever reason you cant build-it-yourself.
McAfee Total Protection offers local encryption rather than Personal Locker. In truth, I cant imagine any other product which offers similar biometric protection to your most-sensitive data. Kaspersky Total Security 2016, Bitdefender Total Security 2016, as well as others also permit you to create encrypted file vaults on your own PC, but there isnt any cross-device capability nor any replacement for use biometric authentication.
All of McAfees products now add the cross-device unlimited licensing that utilized to belong simply to McAfee LiveSafe, but LiveSafe started the campaign. For the same price, Symantec Norton Security offers you ten cross-platform licenses along with 25GB of hosted online backup. These two products share the Editors Choice honor for cross-platform multi-device security suite.
Note: These sub-ratings promote a products overall star rating, just like other factors, including simplicity of use in real-world testing, bonus features, and overall integration of features.

McAfee LiveSafe is the foremost product in McAfees sizable security portfolio. Its suite offers protection for a limitless number of Windows PCs, Macs and Android and iOS devices, in conjunction with a Web dashboard. Theres 1GB of cloud-based storage at the same time. The whole thing is accessible for 60 each year.
McAfee offers you a solid complement of protection tools for the PC that has virus and spyware protection, Web and email protection, and parental controls. Also included is really a suite of not overly impressive tune-up tools.
The interface is simple, with big icons representing every one of its modules. I found the structure to be clear and, letting me easily drill into customize any feature. Modules include Virus and Spyware Protection, Web and Email Protection, Data Protection, PC and Home Network Tools, and Parental Controls. There are also icons that it is possible to click to update the program or start to see the status of your respective subscription.
Clicking an icon allows you to quickly drill down into your guts of the module. For example, go through the Virus and Spyware icon to scan your PC, turn real-time scanning on or off, and schedule scans. Similarly, click Web and Email protection to permit or disable your firewall, anti-spam functionality and SiteAdvisor - - an element that says to you which sites feel safe or unsafe prior to deciding to visit. SiteAdvisor also helps you to know when a site is safe once you do a search.
PC and Home Network Tools is when to go for tune-up and miscellaneous tools. I found the tune-up tools being fairly rudimentary: A QuickClean feature that deletes unnecessary files, a defragmenter plus a file shredder. You may not discover youself to be using them much - - as an example, automatic defragging is made into Windows. However, if you intend to securely eliminate files, many times the file shredder useful.
A tool called My Home Network sounds great the theory is that. Its suitable for those who need to keep an eye around the devices associated with their network. It lists each device it finds, together with information for instance the devices os, whether its protected by McAfee software, its IP and MAC addresses, and whether file and/or printer sharing is fired up.
On my network, though, it had been only partially useful. It found my router, two Windows PCs and my network printer, but was struggling to identify my Mac or iPhone - - and I was not ever able to figure out why.
The suite has a Windows 8 app, McAfee Central, that wasnt very beneficial. Its meant to give specifics of your PCs security state, but it really didnt be employed by me - - as an example, it reported that my Windows PC didnt have McAfee LiveSafe attached with it, eventhough it did.
All to all, in terms of basic protection, the Windows aspect of McAfee LiveSafe does a great job. But in relation to extras, for example tune-up tools and learning more about your network, I found it being not that helpful.
McAfee LiveSafes Mac version has anti-malware, a firewall and protection against malicious websites, but nothing beyond that. There are no parental controls, tune-up utilities or similar tools. This isnt particularly surprising. Most other Mac-based security suites Ive seen lack them likewise.
I found the interface, although nicely compact, being somewhat confusing. The main panel informs you what security measures are fired up, but isnt interactive. Normally you would expect that clicking Firewall allows you to permit, disable or change the firewall, as an example, but that isnt the situation here.
To customize how a application works, you have to click on the McAfee LiveSafe - Internet Security menu item around the top menu bar after which select Preferences. From there you may configure how each security module works - - one example is, it is possible to turn the firewall don and doff or select what rules the firewall should apply, according to which network youre currently attached to.
Down the left side on the main screen are buttons for performing, scheduling and updating scans. There are also links to your history of your respective scans and also to any quarantined items, along with a connect to the Web dashboard.
Overall, the Mac version most likely are not a paragon of great design. But if its just security youre after, it lets you do the trick.
Unlike the limited capabilities of McAfees iOS tool, the Android version is really a fully featured security app. It protects your device against malware; scans apps to seek out privacy invaders; locates, locks and wipes lost or stolen devices; protects from malicious websites and backs up private information.
The left side from the apps main screen lists each security module, including for scanning for malware, even though the right side enables you to perform actions in connection with that module and start to see the results of the actions. Its uncomplicated to use and allows you to quickly get towards the task you would like done.
I found the privacy scanner to get the most useful tool. It warns you about any apps that may be privacy invaders, allows you to lock apps that will contain sensitive data, and allows you to block specific telephone numbers from sending you texts or calls. You can also create profiles to disguise or display apps in accordance with whoever is while using device.
This is really a stellar security app, exceptionally fully featured and superior to its iOS sibling.
The iOS module isnt a real security tool - - it doesnt scan for malware or warn you about apps that potentially may be privacy-invaders. Instead, its a privacy vault that protects files your photos and videos. The app also backs up your contacts and locates your phone whether or not this gets lost; it's got remote lock and wipe.
I found the vault to get quite confusing and much more trouble than it had been worth. You cant simply select files being protected - - instead, you need to add photos and videos manually, then delete them using their company original locations. Worse still, photos and videos arent added towards the vault automatically once you take them or download them. Instead, if you're going to take a picture or video that you just know youll want to become protected, you need to launch the McAfee app, then utilize the camera module that is included with the app for taking photo or video.
McAfees Web dashboard is moderately useful. It shows you the protection state from a devices what is the best youve installed McAfee LiveSafe, including if the last scan was completed and its results, and whether the safety software is up-to-date. For mobile phones, you'll be able to locate a lost device, lock it remotely, sound a burglar on it and wipe it.
However, during my case, the dashboard was inaccurate. It revealed that my Macs McAfee protection had lapsed, while I had installed a brand new version from it that very day. And - - perhaps as it thought protection had lapsed - - it didnt show the final results of malware scans for the machine.
Despite some issues with inaccuracies, LiveSafe is usually a good security suite at a good price. Its Mac and Windows protection is solid, however the latter falls down with regards to tune-up tools, plus the Android protection is exemplary, as you move the iOS is fairly poor.
And the purchase price is right - - 59.99 annually to protect numerous devices as you need. LiveSafe is worth considering, particularly when youve got lots of devices which need protection.
Price: 59.99/year for a limitless amount of number of devices
Pros: Protection for unlimited variety of devices, free 1GB of cloud-based storage, excellent Android security
Cons: Unimpressive Windows tune-up tools, confusing Mac interface, weak iOS component

As primarily Security Suites, youve got on-access protection and scheduled scans. On-access protection simply scans files for threats as and if you try and access them. For example when you access a folder also it contains the herpes virus, when you open the folder McAfee will scan it and if this locates a threat will erase it pretty much instantly which makes it really difficult to open up a virus even for people who find themselves not very at ease their PC.
Quick scan: About 8 minutes.
I also found out that when I switched from Norton to McAfee, McAfee found a volume of items Norton had simply missed.
The only gripe I have together with the description on this feature would be the fact it doesnt appear to pick up a huge amount of malware. If anything it appears to be to grab malware after its been installed, nevertheless it would be so much easier whether it could understand it before it was on your own PC.
For my regular job I work providing Tech Support and I must speak with 20 every day who have malware on the machine and they might be pretty argumentative simply because assume McAfee will protect them against malware. Although this will acquire some malware, it misses lots of programs which cause popups, redirects and inline adverts.
I personally get the best option is undertake a program in this way installed to defend you against the serious stuff, then possess a free malware removal tool for example Malwarebytes or Adwcleaner available for should you do inadvertently installed malware.
I would however include that although McAfees capacity to pick-up malware seems slightly limited, I would say it appears to be more effective at collecting malware than its main rival Norton. Read more

I changed each year back from BitDefender to McAfee LiveSafe as I got a new Dell laptop and yes it came with McAfee pre-installed. It was liberated to install it on the whole other family machines. My exposure to many different anti-virus products over the years may be that it is usually problematic playing with almost 12 months now McAfee is fault-free and wins my vote completely.
I switched because I had plenty of trouble on some machines with BitDefender refusing to update certainly nothing I could do would repair it. The time I spent emailing, re-installing and the like was hardly worth it. McAfee until now, as I say - faultless and being a a part of the Intel group gives me confidence.

After making use of this AV programme for a few months I am disappointed which it recognised a Trojan, Fox Browser acknowledged its existence, but declined to correct it stating that that it was unable to accomplish that. The result was that my computer black screened Be warned in this McAfee failure. An AV system that isn't able to prevent the herpes virus incursion and won't quarantine it should not be marketed. I realize that as at today 11/6/15 the Amazon entry states unavailable. I have wasted profit buying this and will probably be out of pocket to get my PC fixed.

I bought this device and installed it recently. Only a couple weeks ago after switching on my small computer I got an warning message from McAfee livesafe to scan my computer. There was 2 warnings informing me my anti virus and internet security was deterred. I couldnt figure out why as I hadnt turned them off. I clicked scan along with redirected to your McAfee invoice page asking me to submit my very own details to acquire another McAfee product. Furious I went along to their website and wasted nearly two hours getting no email reply to my problem. An expensive 40 minute mobile call with a clueless technical adviser suggesting I uninstall the rogue McAfee link from key pad then locked me out and denied me having access to check that LiveSafe is working. Worse more is I cant even uninstal McAfee from my conputers key pad. Not knowing if laptop is protected I tried reinstalling LiveSafe using my product registration key. It wont even achieve that either. I dont trust tech support from McAfee because of their remote access just because a previous McAfee antivirus product malfunctioned. No because of their support team who via remote use of laptop installed some malware to mend defective McAfee merely to frazzle the computers Bios in addition to their advice then was for getting it fixed at laptop repair shop. Not apoligising for damaging my old laptop losing me countless files etc but not paying me for repairs/replacement laptop I dread McAfee and incompetant company from remotely accessing my replacement laptop, now with LiveSafe a second time. If I could do away with this dangerous untrustworthy locked protected from my laptop I would go back to using Bitdefender as It never allow me to down. My regret isn't renewing my Bitdefender and placing my faith in McAfee LiveSafe. Please, Please surf the online world for complaints regards technical problems
